Francis Marion Acord, brother of William Gordon Acord, he was born 1832, he died 1864 in the Civil War, he served in both the Confederate & Union Armies. 10th Arkansas, Cavalry, 11th Infantry CSA and 2nd Arkansas infantry -- Union. He was killed in action at Lewisburg Heights, Arkansas, he was married to Elizabeth Horner, she was born 1835, and died around 1864.  Their home was the Western end of Acord Hollow, North of Clarksville, near Friley, Arkansas.

Francis Marion Acord, son of John Acord, grandson of Cornelius Acord was born in Roane County, Tennessee in 1832, in 1849, he migrated with his parents to Johnson County, Arkansas. They settled in the Mulberry Township where he met and married Elizabeth Horner on June 10, 1853. Elizabeth was born July 10, 1835 in Perry County, Tennessee, the daughter of Spencer & Permelia Turner.

Francis was 5ft- 6ins tall, having dark completion, blue eyes, and black hair.
Francis & Elizabeth Acord farmed on the Western end of Acord Hollow, near the town of Friley, along the Mulberry Creek.

Early 1864, Francis was mustered along with his brothers and his Horner in laws, with the 10th Regiment Arkansas militia in Clarksville, as a third Lt. After the outbreak of hostilities the Governor of Arkansas turned over control of his militia to the confederacy.
The militia units largely disbanded and members enlisted in regular Army units.

His brothers all joined Confederate units, but Francis was persuaded by his Horner in laws to enlist in the newly formed 2nd Arkansas Union Infantry, Company K, on January 24, 1864 in Clarksville.

That winter while Francis was away, Elizabeth contracted the measles, she had two young sons to care for, requiring her to spend long hours out in the cold, chopping wood and doing the chores, as a result she became very ill. Hearing of the situation, Elizabeth's sister in law, Angeline (Cook) Acord, who was married to Francis's brother Calvin, came on mule from the other end of Acord Hollow, there was little that Angeline could do for Elzabeth, except take the boys home with her. She wrapped young Christopher in her apron and John on the back of the mule, soon afterwards, Elizabeth succumbed to Pneumonia and died on March 1,1864.

Francis was stationed at Lewisburg Ridge, near the present day town of Morrilton, where he died on April 28, 1864. There is some disagreement among the researchers about the cause of death. His military records, do not state that he was killed in action, though his unit was involved at a skirmish near a bridge at Pettit Jean, some two weeks before his death. It is generally believed tha he contracted measles or Typhoid fever.
Two of his brother in laws, died within two weeks, he was buried near the encampment in a temporary graveyard with wooden markers, after the war the graveyard was moved but the makers had disintegrated, so Francis's final resting place is unknown.

An affidavit signed by his fellow soldier filled with the pension application for his two sons, states that "said Acord was a man of personal moral and good habits, in fact more so than most in soldiers in the camp"

Francis's brother Calvin Acord was eventually appointed guardian of his orphaned sons, Calvin raised the orphaned sons of his brother Francis, after the Civil War. Calvin invested the Union pension the orphans received,  because Francis Marion served in the Union Army when he was killed, upon reaching majority Calvin gave them the money, plus the interest it had earned.
