WILLIAM GORDON ACORD

William Gordon Acord was born in 1827 in Roane County, Tennesse, the son of John & Sarah Acord, he was killed by bushwackers on March 18, 1864, at the age of 37 years old, outside his home in Johnson County, Arkansas.

William married Martha Casey, the daughter of Turner Franklin Casey & Sarah Casey, Martha was born in 1837 and died in 1903, Martha had a brother Uriah Casey who was a Baptist preacher, one researcher found was part Indian, so it would also mean that Martha was part Indian also..

Their Children were:

SARAH CAROLINE ACORD, was born January 14, 1855 in Friley, Johnson County, Arkansas, Sarah married NICHOLAS BISHOP GRAY, July 11, 1870.

Nicholas was born July 11,1845 in Johnson County, Arkansas.

At the time of the 1870 Johnson County Census they were living with her mother, Martha.

Then they moved to Healdton, Indian Territory, Oklahoma (now Carter County).

Their son, Jesse was small and his mother Caroline covered him with a handkerchief to protect him from the hot sun and wind. This handkerchief became a favorite keepsake of this long and dangerous journey.

They moved to Ardmore, Oklahoma and separated and then divorced. Sarah bought a small farm, Southwest of Armore and raised her children there, she had seven children, for daughters and three sons.

She lived on the farm until her death, her grandaughter Mary Florence was sleeping with her and tried to wake her up in the morning. Clara (Gray) Flippin discovered her mother had died peacefully in her sleep, after the divorce, Nicholas moved to Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas and remarried shortly before his death,SARAH CAROLINE died May 13,1924 in Littlefield, Lamb County, Texas.
