EARLY UPTONS
Submitted by: Susan Fahnstrom

Our Upton's Ancestors were actually a group of Quakers which followed the movement from Maryland to North Carolina to the Quaker settlement at Wrightsville, Georgia, (some remained in Georgia, then returned to North Carolina)

Among the Upton families of this group that remained in the Quaker Region of North Carolina was another John Upton, also referred to as John "the Miller" Upton because he owned the grist mill near Fayetteville, North Carolina, we believe that John's father was also named John Upton.

There is evidence that John "The Miller" was related to the Georgia families but
it is uncertain exactly how. It was John "the miller" Upton  who married Deliah ? and they had several sons, including Joseph Upton, their son Joseph, disappears from the records at the about the same time that he pops up in Arkansas, so he must have moved there.

There is also evidence that ties the Arkansas Joseph with two other sons of John "the Miller" Upton, who settled in White/Hamilton Co, Southern Illinios about the same time that Joseph went to Arkansas. The group briefly lived in Overton Co, Tennesse en route west to Southern Indiana. JOSEPH UPTON was married to GENTIE ? and had quite a few children, one of them was JOHN WESLEY UPTON, who married MARTHA BOWEN, they had MAHALA CATHERINE UPTON, who married JOHN N HARRIS and one of their sons was JOHN HENRY HARRIS.
