History
- The Old Hurst - Teagarden Cemetery is a Pre-Civil War cemetery of early Marion County pioneers, located on the south side of Crooked Creek. The first grave was a child of Abram Hurst, (son of John Hurst, the early pioneer) buried in 1841. John Hurst, who married Nancy Wood, is buried here as well as Abraham Wood. They and others buried at this cemetery are the ancestors of many descendants who still live in and around Marion County, as well as many whose families have migrated elsewhere.DIRECTIONS: This cemetery can be reached by turning onto Marion Co. Road 7041, a paved road found just east of Flippin, off of Hwy 62/412 about 1 1/2 miles past Flippin on the right, if going towards Cotter. Marion county road 7041 is found east of Flippin, but before you reach where Hyw.101 turns off to the right. Look for the small blue MC road sign. Follow MC-7041 until it crosses Crooked Creek at a low-water bridge and becomes MC-6001. You will now be traveling west on MC-6001.
Before long you will see a small overgrown cemetery on your right. This is not it. Continue on and you will see two large poultry barns on the right. Just after them is a nice house on the right. About 200 feet past this house is a dirt road that is now marked as MC-6003. There are mailboxes in the center medium of this dirt road Turn right on this dirt road.
Follow this dirt road until there is a large old wood 2-story house on your right. Crooked Creek will now be on your left. Follow the road around to the right, just past the old house, going up to a gate between a large old abandoned silo building and an old barn. Go through this gate, shutting it behind you (cows on private property). You will then see the cemetery on your right, behind the barn, enclosed inside a barbwire fence. Again, close any and all gates going in and coming out.

What a great day it was says Christi. The day was spent weedeating, raking and burning debris, see the difference in the photos to the left.Our goal is to get this cemetery in the shape to mow so that the public can visit for research and pay respect to their ancestors.
