Of all the types of records a genealogist searches the small local (usually weekly) newspapers give the researcher the best glimpse into the day to day lives of their ancestors.
The index below is divided into two sections. One section lists the issues being abstracted by Gladys Horn Brown which contain only local items of interest. The other section lists the issues being abstracted by Linda Haas Davenport which are much more complete - covering at least a mention of everything found in each issue of the paper.

The Mountain Echo published its first issue March 6, 1886 and its last issue Dec 2001. The Echo was sold to the Flippin Mountaineer and the combined papers are now named The Mountaineer Echo.
