The Mountain Echo, July 14, 1977 Issue: Etta H. JANES. Etta HOUGHTON JANES, aged 88, died Thursday, July 7 in her home in Yellville. Mrs. JANES was born Oct. 4, 1888 in Grand Rapids, Mich. to J. D. and Louise BIZER HOUGHTON. She had lived in Marion County for 32 years. Mrs. JANES had been a teacher in this area for many years, having taught for seven years in Jacksonville, Fla., eight years in Pyatt, and a year in Colorado. She attended Albian College in Michigan, a year in Atlantic City, N. J., and also in Colorado. She also attended college in Arkansas. Mrs. JANES studied music and for some time did opera singing. At the time of her death, she was a teacher in the Right to Read program. Mr. JANES preceded her in death in 1955. Survivors include several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Helping other people make her friends feel they had an angel in their midst. Graveside services were held Monday, July 11 at 10 a.m. at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery with Tom Blackwell officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Burns Funeral Home of Yellville.

The Mountain Echo, October 20, 1977 Issue: Willie HAMLET. Willie HAMLET, aged 68, of Yellville died Friday, Oct. 14 at the Bull Shoals Community Hospital. He was born in Yellville on Sept. 7, 1909 to Worth R. and Minnie GILLIAM HAMLET and lived all his life in Marion County. Mr. HAMLET was a heavy machinery operator for the Arkansas State Highway Department. He was a veteran of World War II and was a member of Summit Baptist Church and a 32nd degree Mason in the Yellville Lodge No. 117, F&AM. Survivors include his wife, Geneva KEETER HAMLET of the home; two sons, Dale HAMLET of Edwardsville, Ill., and Jimmy HAMLET of Kansas City, Mo.; one daughter, Mrs. Lynda CLOUD of Mount Ida, Ark.; two brothers, Roy HAMLET of Phoenix, Ariz., and Keith HAMLET of Yellville; five sisters, Mrs. Helen SAVAGE, Mrs. Hester MORROW, AND Mrs. Florence LAYTON, all of Harrison, Mrs. Anna MORROW of Yellville, and Mrs. Louise MORROW of Luther, Okla.; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at the Summit Baptist Church on Sunday, Oct. 16 with Rev. Dale Barnett and Rev. Lee Bowers officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of LaFevers Funeral Home of Bull Shoals.

The Mountain Echo, November 3, 1977 Issue: Agnes M. EDDINGS. Agnes Marie WAGONER EDDINGS, aged 36, of Route 1, Everton, died Tuesday, Oct. 18, at Boone County Hospital. She was born April 19, 1941 in Marion County, a daughter of Kirby and Gladys VICKERS WAGONER. Survivors include her husband, Eugene EDDINGS, and a daughter, Tammie EDDINGS, of the home; a son, Danny EDDINGS, in the United States Navy; her parents of Blue John, and a brother, Marshall WAGONER of Blue John. Services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 22, at Pleasant Ridge Church with Rev. Dale Barnett officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery under the directions of Christeson's Funeral Home of Harrison. Pallbearers were E. P. KILLEBREW, Lewie KILLEBREW, Kelly HUDSON, Bob HUDSON, Leon WAGONER and Eldwan WAGONER. Honorary pallbearers were Jimmy WAGONER, Michael WAGONER, Lowell HALL and Doyle HALL.

The Mountain Echo, December 15, 1977 Issue: Anna M. BEAVERS: Anna M. BEAVERS, aged 86, of Yellville died Friday, Dec. 9 in the Marion County Nursing Home. Mrs. BEAVERS was born Jan. 3, 1891 in Buffalo, Ark. to Thomas Newton and Sarah SUTTERFIELD TILLEY. She had lived in Marion County for the past 60 years. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Harrison. Survivors include one daughter Linnia FITZGERALD of Tulsa, Okla.; one son, Eugene P. BEAVERS of Aurora, Mo.; one brother, George TILLEY of Anderson, Ind.; eleven grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11 in the Burns Chapel with Rev. Basil Edwards and Rev. Hugh May officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. Pallbearers were Tom HUDSON, Woodrow WARD, H. C. HALL, Jim BEAVERS, Mike BEAVERS, and Lynn SEAL. Arrangements were under the direction of the Burns Funeral Home of Yellville.

BOWMAN, DAVIS, DOSHIER, JAMES, JOHNSON, MELTON, OTT, POTTS, SIMS Death Date Sunday, December 11, 1977
The Mountain Echo, December 15, 1977 Issue: George T. SIMS. George Thomas SIMS, was born near Yellville on Dec. 25, 1883, died in the Marion County Hospital on Sunday, Dec. 11 at the age of 93. Mr. SIMS attended Yellville High School and later attended Central State College in Edmond, Okla., and was a graduate of Oklahoma State University at Stillwater. He spent most of his adult life in the teaching profession, having started his teaching career in 1904 in Yellville. In 1909 he moved to western Oklahoma and spent in excess of 30 years as superintendent of schools in various towns in that state before he returned to Arkansas to be superintendent of schools at Bruno. He continued teaching at Flippin and Yellville until he retired at the age of 72. Mr. SIMS was a 32nd degree Mason and life member of Yellville Lodge No. 117. He was a member of Pleasant Ridge Methodist Church from the time he was a young man until his death. Mr. SIMS married Anna Maude DOSHIER on June 30, 1909 and they shared 68 years together. He is survived by his wife, Maude, of the home, a son Bryan SIMS of Racine, Wis., one daughter, Mrs. Reta POTTS of Chickasha, Okla.; four grandsons, James Thomas, Mark and Scott DAVIS of Roeland Park, Kans.; and one granddaughter, Mrs. Jann BOWMAN of Sedan, Kans. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 13 at 2 p.m. at the Pleasant Ridge Methodist Church with interment at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. Rev. Paul Crossman officiated. Memorials may be made to the Marion County Hospital Auxiliary Fund. Pallbearers were Altus DOSHIER, Harry DOSHIER, Herbert OTT, Johnny MELTON, Russell JAMES and Woodrow JOHNSON. Arrangements were under the direction of the Burns Funeral Home of Yellville.

The Mountain Echo, December 22, 1977 Issue: Luther M. STUBBS. Luther M. STUBBS, aged 86, of Yellville, died Wednesday, Dec. 14 in the Marion County Hospital. A self employed farmer, he was born June 6, 1891 in Yellville to Jonathan and Jane DOSHIER STUBBS. In August, 1915 he married the former Addie MELTON, who preceded him in death. He was a lifetime resident of Marion County and was a member of I.O.U.F. No. 3 in Mountain Home. Survivors include one daughter, Madge WOOTEN of Yellville; four sons, Johnny STUBBS of Yellville, Fred STUBBS of Springfield, Mo, Ned STUBBS of Branson, Mo., and Connie M. STUBBS of Springfield; three sisters, Nellie HURT of Yellville, Virgie DUNLAP of Leachville, Ark., and Mildred SCHRADER of Inglewood, Calif.; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17 at Pleasant Ridge Methodist Church with Rev. Dale Barnett and Rev. Paul Crossman officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jay KING, Eual OTT, Ronnie RAUGH, G. C. MELTON, Marvin ALLEN and Carl Lee BLANKENSHIP. Arrangements were under the direction of Burns Funeral Home of Yellville.

The Baxter Bulletin, February 16, 1978 Issue: Walter PLUMMER, retired farmer. Walter F. PLUMMER, 89, a retired farmer of Marion County, died Monday of last week at his home in Yellville. A native of Grayson, Ala., he had lived in this area for 42 years. The son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Samuel PLUMMER, he was born March 6, 1888, and moved to Marion County from Paris (Logan County). He was married to the former Zona TREAT, who preceded him in death. Mr. PLUMMER is survived by two daughters, Junita WADLEY of North Little Rock and Hazel RICHARDSON of Richland, Mo.; a son, Walter F. PLUMMER, Jr., of Monroe, La., a brother, William S. PLUMMER of Memphis, Tenn.; a sister, Nannie DORROUGH of Paris, and six grandchildren. Services were held Wednesday of last week at the Pleasant Ridge Methodist Church with John Doolen officiating. Interment was in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, under the direction of the Burns Funeral Home of Yellville. Pallbearers were Herbert OTT, Garland OTT, J. B. OTT, Lester OTT, Mac HUDSPETH and Abe COWAN.

The Mountain Echo, March 9, 1978 Issue: Benjamin F. BUOY. Benjamin F. BUOY, aged 63, of Summit, died in the Veteran's Hospital in Fayetteville on Saturday, Mar. 4. Mr. BUOY was born in Bartlesville, Okla., on Nov. 26, 1914 to Grover and Blanch MEASLES BUOY. He was a retired pipe welder for the Bechgel Company and had lived in Marion County for the past 20 years. He was a member of the Summit Baptist Church and the Disabled American Veterans organization. Survivors include his wife, Darlene MADDOX BUOY of the home; one son, Richard J. MADDOX of Copan, Okla.; two sisters, Patricia COX and Joan LYONS, both of Wichita, Kans.; and two grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Mar. 7 at 2 p.m. in the Summit Baptist Church with Rev. Wallace Koone officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. Survivors include his wife DeMoie, of the home; one son, Roger Doyne DOSHIER of Seoul, Korea; one daughter, Betty Lane STANLEY of Wichita; two sister, Gladys TREAT of Sheridan, Ark., and Mildred YOUNG of St. Louis; five brothers, Harold DOSHIER and Altus DOSHIER, both of Yellville, William DOSHIER and Jim DOSHIER, both of Wichita; Charles DOSHIER of Klamoth Falls, Ore.; and five grandchildren. Mrs. BIRRER was born in Eros on Mar. 2, 1902 to John R. and Flora Bell COKER STOVALL. She was a lifetime resident of Marion County. She was married on Nov. 18, 1925 to A. W. "Dutch" BIRRER, who survives. She was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church. Other survivors, beside her husband, of the home, include four daughters, Agatha BIRRER of Springfield, Mo., Mary BIRRER of Bucharest, Rumania, Joy SALSBERRY of Conway, and Betty PERRY of Smithville, Ark.; one son, Johnny BIRRER of Yellville; five sisters, Nola AKINS and Virgie CHOWNING, both of Harrison, Myrtle YARBROUGH of Morrilton, Jettie BROWN of Fayetteville, and Vernie YOUNG of Muskogee, Okla.; and ten grandchildren. Funeral services were held in Pleasant Ridge Methodist Church on Wednesday, April 26 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Lee Bowers officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. The Mountain Echo, June 1, 1978 Issue: Clarence WALKER. Clarence WALKER, aged 85, of Yellville, died Thursday, May 25 in the Marion County Nursing Home. Mr. WALKER was born Sept. 10, 1892 and was a retired salesman for the Twin Lakes Milk Company. He had lived in Marion County for the past two years. Mr. WALKER leaves no known survivors. Graveside services were held Friday, May 26 at 2 p.m. at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery with Rev. Lee Bowers officiating. Burial followed in that cemetery. Pallbearers were Harry MORROW, Garland OTT, Harold DOSHIER, Cecil PIERCE, David STILL and Karl KING. Arrangements were under the direction of the Burns Funeral Home of Yellville.

Mrs. Nela JAMES, 78, of Yellville, a lifetime resident of Marion County, died July 11 at the Marion County Hospital at Yellville. She was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Methodist Church. Mrs. JAMES was born June 26, 1900, the daughter of Will J. OTT and Alice SNIPES OTT. On August 14, 1927 she was married to Joel JAMES, who preceded her in death. Funeral services were held Thursday morning of last week at the Pleasant Ridge Methodist Church, with Rev. Paul Crossman and Rev. Lee Bowers officiating. Interment was in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery under the direction of Burns Funeral Home of Yellville. Survivors include two sons, Russell L. JAMES of Yellville, and William H. JAMES of Kansas City, Mo.; one brother, Virgil OTT, Sr. of Yellville; three sisters, Lela WOOD and Attie JAMES, both of Yellville, and Alvah PYLE of Big Sandy, Texas; one grandchild; and two great grandchildren. Pallbearers were David SMITH, Doyle WOOD, Bobby Joe OTT, Herbert OTT and Tommy MORROW.

Mrs. LAYTON was born Mar. 14, 1888 in Aurora, Mo., to John and Maude BEDFORD BILES. She had lived in Marion County most of her life. She was a member of the Church of Christ of Yellville. Survivors include six daughter, Elizabeth RICHARDSON and Lula COLLIE, both of Yakima, Wash., Maxine WILLIAMS of Ozark, Virginia PERKINS of Rogers, Apella DAVIS of Norwalk, Calif., and Stella Mae HAWES of Azusa, Calif.; three sons John LAYTON and Lonnie Bud LAYTON, both of rural Yellville, and Jim LAYTON of Little Rock; 32 grandchildren, 83 great grandchildren, and 10 great great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 29 at 10 a.m. in the Pleasant Ridge Methodist Church with Rev. Lee Bowers officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Robert HAWES, Carmon DILLARD, Tommy LAYTON, Jay KING, Bud DUDLEY and Ron MOFFET. Arrangements were under the direction of the Burns Funeral Home of Yellville.

Arkansas Gazette, October 13, 1978 Issue: Joel R. CARSON. Joel Reynolds CARSON, aged 69, of 2600 John Ashley Drive, North Little Rock, a farmer, died Wednesday. Born at Yellville, a son of Virgil Pit and Ottie REED CARSON, he was a Baptist. Survivors are two brothers, Aubrey CARSON of North Little Rock and Jack CARSON of Little Rock, and two sisters, Mrs. Neva MOON and Mrs. George POLOS of North Little Rock. Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery Rev. Edwin Hinkson. Burial will be by Griffin Leggett Healey and Roth.

Mrs. ANDERSON was born in Arkansas on Nov. 20, 1906 to L. T. and Martha TILLEY HALL. She was a retired minister of the Assembly of God Church and had lived in Marion County for the past eight years. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church. Survivors include her husband, Bradley ANDERSON of the home; three brothers, Alfred HALL, Everett HALL and Edgar HALL, all of Yellville; and three sisters, Derusha HOLLOWELL of Granger, Wash., Drewcella WHITTEN of Monette, and Savanna OWENS of Peoria, Ill. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Nov.8 at 2 p.m. in the Yellville Assembly of God Church with Rev. Arlie Strong officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. Survivors include her husband, Howard RIPPETOE of the home; one brother, Thomas PECK of Des Moines, Ia.; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 16 at 10 a.m. in the Pleasant Ridge Methodist Church with Rev. Marvin Sansen officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. Mr. Allen was a heavy equipment operator by trade and member of the First Baptist Church of Georgetown, Tex. Survivors include his wife, Dera WALTON ALLEN of the home in Everton; two daughters, Jane SPREEN and Barbara PYLE, both of Austin, Tex.; two step daughters, Dorothy ANDERSON and Margaret BRADLEY, both of Yellville; three sons, Billy L. MCCORMACK of Mt. Clemmon, Mich., Alton L. ALLEN of Houston, Tex., and David ALLEN of Austin, Tex.; four brothers, Herbert ALLEN of Georgetown, Earl ALLEN and Leslie ALLEN, both of Red Bluff, Calif., and Roy ALLEN of Rockdale, Tex.; two sisters Evelyn CASKEY of Georgetown, and Altphine JARMAN of Austin, Tex.; and 17 grandchildren. E. (Edd) CASS. Survivors include her husband, Floyd J. DOSHIER of the home; one son Dale DOSHIER of Mackey, Ida.; two daughters, Mrs. Shirley MOODY of Marietta, Ga., and Mrs. Sherry VENABLE of Harrison; her mother, Almedia CASS of the Marshall Nursing Center; one sister, Mrs. Reba BIRRER of Yellville; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Floyd Jr. Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 19 at the Pleasant Ridge Church with Bro. Lee Bowers officiating. Pallbearers were Jimmy BOGLE, James BRANTLY, Fred BURROW, Hollis HALL, Verl DOSHIER and Harold DOSHIER. Arrangements were under the direction of Christenson Funeral Home of Harrison.

Mrs. FISK was born in the Kingdom Springs area on Feb. 22, 1898 to Will and Mary LOWRANCE PILGRIM. She was a lifetime resident of Marion County. Survivors include two daughters, Bernice PLY and Bertha RORIE, both of Flippin; three sons, Brown FISK of Little Rock, Ray FISK of Yellville, and Russell FISK of Jacksonville; three sisters, Mrs. Roy MORROW of Oklahoma City, Okla., Mrs. Marvin JENKINS of Bakersfield, Calif., and Mrs. Kirk CLAYBORN of Orcutt, Calif.; eleven grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Mar. 1 (today) at the Pleasant Ridge Methodist Church with Rev. Dale Barnett officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Burns Funeral Home of Yellville.

WOOTEN, 76, a lifetime resident of Marion County, died Tuesday of last week at the Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock. Mrs. WOOTON lived in Yellville and was a housewife. Born Feb. 22, 1903 in Buford, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Bill HEDRICK. Mrs. WOOTON and her husband, the late Babe WOOTON, were married Sept. 27, 1924. She is survived by two daughters, Ruby SMITH of Chino, Calif., and Pearl HUDSPETH of Yakima, Wash.; a son, William WOOTON of Yakima; one step-brother, Jack CONNELY of Summit; four sisters, Rachel ROBINETT of Canyonville, Ore., Pearl HOWARD of Gassville, Murry OSBURN and Gertie Mae, both of Memphis, Tenn.; 20 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Services were held Saturday at Pleasant Ridge Methodist Church with Rev. Doyle Davenport officiating. FISK, PILGRIM, PLY, RORIE, WAGGONER Death Date Saturday, March 17, 1979
The Mountain Echo, March 29, 1979 Issue: Russell FISK. Russell E. FISK, age 60, died Saturday, Mar. 17 at his home in Jacksonville. Mr. FISK was born April 12, 1918 to Willie and Millie PILGRIM FISK in Marion County. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1941 and retired in 1961. After his retirement he lived in Washington, D. C. for six years before moving to Jacksonville. Survivors include one daughter, Shirley R. WAGGONER of Milton-Freewater, Ore.; two sister Bernice PLY and Bertha RORIE, both of Flippin; two brothers, Brown FISK of North Little Rock, and Ray FISK of Yellville; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services with full military rites were held Tuesday, Mar. 20 at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery with Rev. Dale Barnett officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

The Mountain Echo, March 29, 1979 Issue: Ivon JOHNSON. Ivon JOHNSON, age 75, of Houston, Tex., died Wednesday, Mar. 21 in the Blalock Nursing Home in Houston. She was born in Yellville on April 29, 1903 to Thomas and Nancy KEETER and had lived in Texas for the last five years. Mrs. JOHNSON was a member of the Main Street Church of Christ in Yellville. Survivors include three daughters, Deloris SANDERS and Augusta GRAY, both of Houston, Tex., and Carolyn COYKENDALL of Delaware, Ohio; one son, Floyd JOHNSON of Detroit, Mich., one brother, Roma KEETER of Branson, Mo., five sisters, Afton JAMES of Tuckerman, Moatte TAYLOR of Grass Valley, Calif., Dottie PHILLIPS and Donnie WEBB, both of Detroit, Mich., and Grace JOHNSON of Yreba, Calif.; eleven grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jess JOHNSON, three brothers and two sisters. Funeral services were held in the Main Street Church of Christ on Friday, Mar. 23 at 2 p.m. with John Doolen and Doyle Davenport officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. Pallbearers were Tank REA, Bobby Joe OTT, Alvin SCOTT, Lester BURNES, Meredith BARKER and Gus KITZING. Arrangements were under the direction of the Burns Funeral Home of Yellville.
