The Mountain Echo, April 18, 1985 Issue: James JOHNSON. James Lester JOHNSON, 93, died at Central Ozarks Medical Center, April 11, 1985. Mr. Johnson was born in Ohio to Steven and Catherine JOHNSON. A resident of Marion County for 37 years, Mr. JOHNSON was the owner of a laundramat. Mr. JOHNSON was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Marion County Farm Bureau, and an active member of the Marion County Republican Party. Survivors include his wife, Wanda JOHNSON, of the home; three daughters, Kathryn STRATON, on Conroe, Texas; Leatha BEHNER, of Wadesworth, Ohio; and Karen Harrison, of Sherman, Texas; one son, Bob JOHNSON of Wadesworth, Ohio; and two grandchildren, David STRATTON, and Shawn STRATTON. Funeral services were held Monday, April 15, at Burns Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverends Burs Morris and Stanley Farmer officiating. Burial was at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. Pallbearers were Shawn STRATTON, David STRATTON, Kent KYLES, Bill BALEDGE, Bill HARRISON, and Roscoe JEFFERSON. Honorary pallbearers included Claude WADE, Cleo MARTIN, Robert ARMSTONG, Harry MORROW, Fred DEROHAN, and Don BOYCE. Arrangements were under the direction of Burnes Funeral Home of Yellville.

The Mountain Echo, August 1, 1985 Issue: Ruth WELCH. Ruth WELCH, age 79, of Yellville, Arkansas, died on July 25, in Central Ozarks Medical Center. She was born in Round Timber, Texas on April 3, 1906. She was the daughter of James MITCHELL and Annie RIPPSTEIN MITCHELL. She married Arthur WELCH on September 16, 1925 in Paducah, Texas. He preceded her in death. Survivors include: Daughters-Dorothy SHELTON, Tacoma, Washington; Marie DAVIS, Vallejo, California; Billie PHILLIPS, Yellville, Ar.; and Lola Jean HYATT, Tampa, Fla. Sons-Carl WELCH, Alva, Okla; James WELCH, Edward WELCH, Charles WELCH and Johnny WELCH all of Yellville. Sister-Velma JOHNSON, Yellville. Brothers-Melvin MITCHELL, Robert MITCHELL, and Bert MITCHELL, all of Yellville. She had 31 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren. Services took place at the Main Street Church of Christ on Monday, July 29, 1985, with Rev. Earl Cook officiating. She was buried in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. Pallbearers include: Bill BRITTEN, Carl RAMEY, Larry CALLAHAN, Matthew HYATT, Boyd DOSHIER and Leslie HALL. Honorary Pallbearers include: Larry PHILLIPS, Sammy PHILLIPS, Chris WELCH, Fred WELCH, and David WELCH. She was a member of the Main Street Church of Christ, The Tuesday Ladies Quilting Club and a member of the Extension Homemakers Club. In lieu of flowers, people may give to the Main Street Church of Christ.

Boone County Headlight, August 5, 1985 Issue: George MUNO, 73, Yellville. George W. MUNO, age 73, of Yellville, died Friday, Aug. 2, at the Marion County Nursing Home. He was born Feb. 22, 1912, in California, a son of Edward and Julia SCHUBERT MUNO. He was a retired aircraft mechanic for the United States Navy. He lived in Marion County 15 years. Survivors include his wife, Inis MUNO, Yellville; three sisters, Rena TERSTEGGE, Dorothea PRATT and Ethel BLEW, all of Visalia, Calif. and a brother, Raymond MUNO, Visalia, Calif. Graveside services were Monday, Aug. 5, at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery with the Rev. Lee Bowers officiating. Burial was under the direction of Burns Funeral Home of Yellville.

The Mountain Echo, November 14, 1985 Issue: Elvie C. DOSHIER. Elvie DOSHIER, 93, of Yellville, passed away on November 5, 1985 in the Marion County Nursing Home. She was the daughter of Frank and Alice (BOWERS) BURROW and a lifetime resident of Marion County. She was preceded in death by her husband Marvin. Survivors include: one son, William A. DOSHIER, Little Rock; and four brothers, Floyd, Mason, and Walter BURROW, all of Yellville; and Graden BURROW, Yakima, Washington. She was preceded in death also by her parents, two sons, Ewell and Jewell; one sister, two brothers, Perry and Sanford, and one grandchild. She has five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Services took place at the Pleasant Ridge Methodist Church where Elvie was a member, on Thursday, November 7. Rev. Lee Bowers and Rev. Charles Cooper officiated. Pallbearers were: Johnny BIRRER, Russell JAMES, Fred BURROW, Jim BOGLE, Gerald SMITH, and Herbert OTT. Burial services were under direction of Burns Funeral Home in Yellville.

She was born in Yakima, Washington on June 23, 1940 to Edwin and Justina (SHEARER) AHRENS. Survivors include: her husband, Bill GILLEY, Yellville; two daughters, Sheri and Tina, both of Yellville; two sons, Steven GILLEY, Magazine, Ar.; and Jeffery GILLEY, Fayetteville, Ar.; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin AHRENS, Yakima, Washington; and one grandchild, Sheena GILLEY. Services took place on Friday, November 22, 1985 at the Assembly of God Church in Yellville. Rev. Chester Eversole officiated. Interment was in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. Pallbearers included: Roger GILLEY, Kenny GILLEY, Mike GILLEY, Danny GILLEY, Kelly GILLEY, Danny PERSHALL, and Joe BENNETT. In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted at the Bank of Yellville. Funeral services for Blanche Rheva BURROW of Yellville were Thursday at Pleasant Ridge Methodist Church. The Revs. Charles Cooper and Lee Bowers officiated. Mrs. BURROW, 74, died Monday night when a tornado struck her home south of Yellville. Burial was in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery with Johnny BIRRER, H. C. HALL, Russell Lee JAMES, Dan GARRETT, Hollis HALL and Eual REED serving as pallbearers. Survivors include her husband Walter BURROW, at home; one son, Fred BURROW of Yellville; two sisters, Theda DOSHIER of Yellville and Neva MCCULLOM of Stockton, Calif.; and three grandchildren. Her parents were Cam and Ollie PANGLE JOHNSON. Mrs. Burrow, a housewife, was a native of Marion County. She was born Dec. 5, 1910, at Georges Creek. Arrangements were by Burns Funeral Home of Yellville.

Survivors include: His wife, Rena (SHORT) SIMMONS; Daughters, Shelby SENIU, Santa Ana, Ca.; and Debra VIZCARRA, LaPalma, Ca.; step-daughters, Becky DANIELS, Harrah, Ok.; and Debra SMITH, Los Angles, Ca.; one son, Jerry SIMMONS, Calif.; step-sons Larry VINCENT, Lawndale, Ca.; Jim VINCENT, Calif.; and Roy BLAKENSTEIN, Japan. His mother, Gertrude SIMMONS, Yellville; one sister, Mrs. Emily DREWS, Calif.; one brother George SIMMONS, Sepulveda, Ca.; and 13 grandchildren. Services took place at the New Hope Baptist Church were James was a member on December 28, 1985 at 3 p.m. Interment was in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery with Rev. Fred Goodall and Rev. He was the son of Charles T. and Gusta Mae (SODTMAN) BIRRER, born in Oklahoma on August 20, 1897. He has been a resident of Marion County for 72 years. Survivors include four daughter, Agatha BIRRER, Springfield, Mo.; Mary BIRRER, Yellville; Joy SALSBERRY, Conway, Ar.; and Betty PERRY, Cave City, Ar.; one son Johnny BIRRER, Yellville, one sister, Lorena DOTSON, Collinsville, Oklahoma; four brothers, Eddie BIRRER, Leon BIRRER, Leroy BIRRER all of Visalia, California; and E. P. BIRRER of Yellville, 10 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles BIRRER and his wife Euna, who passed away on April 24, 1978. He was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church and a Charter Member of the Marion County Farm Bureau. She was the daughter of Sam and Lorna (SENTER) BOONSHAFT, born in Missouri on January 9, 1903. She had been a resident of Marion County for eight months. Survivors include: one daughter, Emily DREWS, Hawthorne, California; one son, George SIMMONS, Sepulvida, California; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse SIMMONS who passed away in 1972; one son, two sisters and two brothers. Graveside services took place at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 18, 1986. Rev. Fred Goodall officiating. Arrangements were made by Burns Funeral Home in Yellville, Arkansas.

She was a member of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 277 of Cotter, and a member of the Bull Shoals United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband, Danny GARRETT, Flippin; her two daughters, Karen FLIPPIN and Sandy GARRETT, both of Flippin; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. P. BIRRER, Yellville; her two sisters, Eartha HALL and Brenda BURROW, both of Yellville; and one brother, Randy BIRRER of Yellville. He was survived by three daughters, Shirley DOUCETTE of Yellville, Glenda RICE of Nebraska, and Leslie WYATT of Michigan; one son Daniel PHILLIPS of Illinois; 13 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. The funeral was held Friday, Jan. 30, at 2 p.m. under the direction of Burns Funeral Home in Yellville. Burial was in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery.

He was a World War I veteran, a member of the American Legion, Pleasant Ridge Methodist Church, Marion County Hospital Auxiliary and the Yellville Lions Club. He is survived by his wife Joyce, two sisters, Donna OTT and Inez TREAT, both of Yellville, three grandsons and six great grandchildren. He was proceeded in death by a son, Aubrey KEETER, Aubrey's mother, and one brother Bill KEETER. Services were held Wednesday, May 6 at Burns Funeral Chapel in Yellville, with Rev. Doyle Davenport officiating. Pallbearers included Leo AVEY, Burl KING, Fred KEETER, Loyd MOREAU, Bob LIFEVERS and Bobby Joe OTT. Jim ROACH, Bob Nash and Vernon MOREAU served as honorary Pallbearers.
