MEET
WILLIAM CALVIN PILGRIM FAMILY
AT THEIR HOMESTEAD
Submitted by: Donna Jenkins (rdjenkins@sbcglobal.net)

Dividing Line

Here is a picture of the William C. Pilgrim home in Kingdon Springs, Marion Co. Arkansas in 1903. It was located near where Wild Cat Creek joined Jimmies Creek. They lived there, and as I understand, in this house all their married life.

Full names and a little history:

William Calvin Pilgrim born 16 Nov 1869 in a covered wagon as his parents migrated from Georgia to Arkansas. His parents were John C. & Nancy Jane (Pangle) Pilgrim.
He farmed but also worked in the mines. He died 11 Nov 1951 in Flippin, Marion County.
His wife, Mary Susan Caroline (Lowrance) Pilgrim was born 13 Sep 1873 in Kingdon Springs. Her parents, Peter & Sarah (Day) Lowrance had come to this area from Missouri. Mary Pilgrim assisted the Corps of Engineers in identifying the graves that were moved from Wild Cat Cemetery.
Daughters: Lula - Sarah Nancy Lucinda Pilgrim married Roy Morrow in 1910 in Kingdon Springs.
Bessie - Martha Elizabeth Pilgrim married Isaac Hamilton "Ike" Allen in 1920 in Kingdon Springs
Mamie - Maybelle Pilgrim married James Walton Crews in 1920 in Kingdon Springs
Millie - Clara Millie Pilgrim married Willie Fisk in 1915 in Flippin, Marion, AR
Ira - Ira Viola Pilgrim married Marvin Homer Jenkins in 1920 in Kingdon Springs, AR
Ira & Marvin Jenkins are my husband's parents. He remembers visiting in this house in the winter time and it was really cold. He and his siblings slept on the floor near the fireplace, which they kept going all night.

Those in the picture: the two girls on the porch are unknown. The gentleman with the white beard was a neighbor, but the family doesn't remember his name. They only remember that he put a "horn" like device to his ear to hear. The others are from left: Lula, Mamie, Bessie, Millie (standing in front of her mother), Mary and William Pilgrim holding Ira. They had another daughter born about 5 years later.
