This picture was taken around 1910 in Sallisaw, Oklahoma. (Daughter Edith married Paris Virgil Ott). Sylvanus was born in Marion Co. in 1861 and he's the son of John Smith and Julia Ann Burnes Smith. He married Nancy E Walker
Sylvanus lived in Marion Co until around 1880. He left town in a hurry, he was involved in some kind of a gunfight on the outskirts of Yellville, near the Cowan Barrens. Supposedly, two men ambushed him while he was coming into town. He killed one of them and he left town. (This was told to me by Gertie (Kester) Smith, wife of Monty Floyd Snith, in 1987 in Yellville)Sylvanus Smith, wife Nancy E. (Walker) Smith, daughters Edith (on Slyvanus' lap) & Helen.
