FAMILY REUNION
THE JAMES H STONECIPHER EXTENDED FAMILY
Submitted by: Jimmy L. Mitchell (jimmyl@texas.net)

The James Heywood Stonecipher (1839-abt 1920) extended family of Marion County, AR, gathered on Hampton Creek in probably late summer 1911. Most, but not all, of the individuals in this photo are identified on the back of this copy. Photo courtesy of Phil Stonecipher, Tulsa, OK, grandson of James Marion Stonecipher; we are working to properly identify everyone in this image.

Anyone have a better copy of this photo? The Stonecipher cousins and kin would appreciate it! One of my objectives here is to share this photo with my many cousins, whom I will alert to visit your site. Another objective is to see if anyone has a better copy since scanning a xerox copy (of a copy etc.) doesn't give very good results. And, to add to the Stonecipher legacy in Marion Co. Both my mother and grandmother were born there, and my great grandparents are buried there in the Patton Cemetery.

Update from Ellen Krause (Meohmy5@juno.com): I am attaching a photo of the Stonecipher family that you already have on there. I is better than the photocopy but has a tear on the Stoneciphers at the right. My grandfather is the one sitting in the bottom left corner. He is probably the one that took the picture. The old man in the chair is his Uncle. My grandfather was William Newton Stonecipher. Hope this spurs someone to send in their perfect copy. If you will notice the man in the hat with the humongous moustache is a man name of Cheek. He is also in the picture that you have of the miners. He is the 7th adult in the back row. I do not want to take credit for this photo. Verna Fuller sent it to me some years back. If there is anyone out there that has pictures of the Stonecipher headstones at the Powell cemetery I would love to have a copy of them. If there is anyone that would like correct information on William Newtons two families e-mail me. Ellen

J.H. was a Civil War veteran through service with the 1st North Carolina Infantry. Next to the right is Bertha Cordelia (Hanby 1887-1967) and husband James Marion Stonecipher, 1879-1966; the infant daughter (Vivian Loren) on her lap was born Jan 5, 1911. The couple at the upper right holding a toddler and infant in swaddling clothes are my grandparents, James Andrew Madison Stonecipher, 1867-1937, and Sarah Jane Evaline Lowry, 1873-1954. The swaddling clothes infant is my mother, Oza Ann Stonecipher (May 30, 1911-March 5, 1988). Their seven sons are scattered around the photo.
