Linda, I was looking at your wonderful website when I noticed the "unknown pictures" section. I saw picture #13 and thought I saw some familiar faces. I'm including the photo I have of my great great grandparents, William Wise and his wife Mattie. They are the woman to the far left, and the man next to her with his hands on the shoulders of a little girl. My photo was taken about 1929. Is it possible that your picture (#13) is of the same couple, tho several years earlier? I'm looking at the man with the gun and the woman to his left with the plaid dress on.
William Wise and his wife Mattie were from Kentucky. Their first child was born there in 1882, but by 1887 they were in Arkansas. In 1900 Census they lived in Boone County, and by 1910 they had moved on to McLean County, Il. They did live for a while in Marion County, as they left 2 daughters there, Maggie (b. 1882) who married Harrison Hodges( in 1904) and Bertha (b.1887) who married Daniel VanZant (in 1906). If the photo you have is of the WISE Family, and it is in Marion County, I would guess the date is between 1900 and 1910.
My name is Laura Glisson, my grandmother was born in Flippin in 1907. Her name was Rosa Lee Hodges, one of 5 children born to Harrison Hodges and Maggie Lee Wise. In 1914, Harrison Hodges died, and Maggie took her 5 children to Mclean County, IL to be with her parents. The children ended up being adopted when Maggie also died, so my grandmother's name became Betty Johnson. In the early 1960s my grandparents traveled to Flippin to try to locate a birth certificate. (My grandparents were Howard and Betty Munro, just in case anyone there remembers this part of the story!) My grandmother did meet someone who remembered her, the daughter of Laura Goff. She gave my grandmother a letter that was written from Maggie to Laura Goff in 1914.I still have this treasured letter.
Well, I didn't mean to ramble on about my family, but you know how us genealogists are. If there is anyone there in Flippin who is interested in this branch of the family please pass on my name and email address.
Let me know what you think about the picture. If it could be the WISE Family, it may provide the only picture of Maggie. She only lived to be 35.
