TURNBO MANUSCRIPTS On-Line:http://thelibrary.springfield.missouri.org/lochist/turnbo/ The Silas Turnbo manuscripts are a collection of approximately eight hundred short tales, stories and vignettes that reflect life along the White River Valley in northwest Arkansas and southwest Missouri during the latter half of the 19th century. These stories contain many, many names of early settlers and early places. The original Turnbo manuscripts - all 28 volumes! - are housed at the Greene Co. Library at Springfield MO. Out of 800 stories by Turnbo, 260 are about people from Marion County. You can search by either surname, topic or place name. If you search for "Marion County" you will get all 260 stories and you can browse the short beginning lines of each story.
Lynn Morrow at the Missouri Archives in Jefferson City MO has indexed them - a truly mammoth undertaking. A truly good book about Turnbo's writings and what they actually contain (the footnotes alone are well worth the $45 price of the book) is "White River Chronicles" by Jeff Morrow.
