HATFIELD, LLOYD, WILSON posted by Jim Allred on Tuesday, July 25, 2000

My gggrandfather, John W. HATFIELD, married Mary Emily WILSON in Cache, Monroe County, Arkansas on June 25, 1855 by J.P. Bryan. However, that town no longer appears in Monroe County. Can anyone tell me where it was located and what happened to it? They had two children: Martha Ella, Dec. 1856 and William Henry, Sep 1859. John W. disappears about 1859 and Mary appears next in the 1860 Census of Washington, Sevier County, AR. In 1866, she gives the children to neighbors to raise and marries H.(Henry?) LLOYD in Hempstead Co. Ark. If anyone has knowledge of John W.'s parents/siblings or whatever happened to Mary E. Wilson Hatfield Lloyd, I would appreciate any help. Thanks.

MIDKIFF posted by Marilyn Ivie on Thursday, July 27, 2000

My maiden name is MIDKIFF, I moved from Brinkley, Arkansas when I was small. My uncle Gordon MIDKIFF ran Midkiff Funeral Home, his father before him. Not sure of his name John Harvey or Harvey. There were 6 sons Gordon, Sam, John (my father John Perry), Richard, Woodrow, Harvey and one daughter Afton. Think my grandmothers name was Ida or Iva. My father is the only survivor and he is in his 80's and failing health and does not remember places of birth or etc. Any help would be appreciated. I am doing a family tree for my 2 sons. Thanks.

BERRY, BRICE, JOHNSON, NANCE posted by Sue Thomson on Monday, July 31, 2000

My great-grandparents met and, we are told in family lore, married at Cotton Plant, AR on Jan. 25, 1888, where both were teaching school. His name was Alex BRICE; hers, Ella P. JOHNSON. Her older brother Thomas JOHNSON allegedly died there about 1899, age 28. I've not so far located his grave which could either be in Monroe Co. or Woodruff. Whether Ella and Thomas had ventured there alone or with their parents (William Berry JOHNSON & Martha Ann NANCE) is unknown. The JOHNSON family had lived in Pocahontas (Hardemann Co.) TN prior to that time, and in northeastern MS before that. After their marriage, Alex and Ella removed to Hopkins Co., TX where they remained. If you have any history of the teachers/schools in Cotton Plan just before the turn of the century, or of the BRICE brothers (Alex and Thomas) who married Ella and her sister Alice, please contact me by email (sthomson@concentric.net). Any info would be much appreciated.
