Searching for marriage records for my grandparents, Herbert W. SHOREY and Mertie E. GARFIELD. I believe they were married sometime between 1906 and 1908. They were residents of Arkansas Co. during that time, but there do not appear to be any records of their marriage in that county. Could they have married in adjacent Monroe County?

Murder and Suicide in Monroe County? WASHINGTON WOODFIN Surnames - help needed. Hello. I’m looking for any info about my grandfather, Rufus Correll WASHINGTON (b. 29 Aug 1895 or 20 Jan 1897 in Pemiscot County (Caruthersville) MO). 1. Rufus’s grandparents were George, Jr. (b. ca. 1852, AR) & Milly (b. ca. 1846, TN) [unk maiden] WASHINGTON. 2. George, Jr. & Milly WASHINGTON in the 1880 Woodruff County Census shows they had: one child together: Emily (b. 1880), and three of Milly’s children from previous marriage: Mary L. (b. 1869), [boy’s name illegible] (b. 1877, AR), Warner (b. 1878, AR). 3. George, Sr. (b. ca. 1832) & Emily (b. ca. 1839) WASHINGTON are in the 1880 Woodruff County Census. I think these are George Jr.’s parents because of young Emily’s namesake. I need to find all of George, Jr. & Milly’s kids – they had more, including a girl named Annie and two sons: Robert and Henry. Milly’s son born in 1877 may have been named Horace. Family lore suggests that Rufus’s parents died tragically: his father killed the mother with a hammer, and then committed suicide. The murdered woman was Milly’s child, but I don’t know the names of Rufus’s parents. I believe that Milly may have been married to a WOODFIN – there’s a connection to the WOODFIN surname because Rufus is listed in his Uncle Horace WOODFIN’s household in the 1910 Woodruff County census. George, Sr. and Emily WASHINGTON were in the 1870 Woodruff County Census, and WOODFIN families are in the 1870 Monroe County Census records. Do you have any information that might help me? I’d really, really appreciate it! Thanks in advance and best wishes to all in your continued genealogical endeavors. Sincerely, Deborah Kemp

Walter Lee HIX 1871-1952 We have a possible "hit". Two of the bothers names below match as does the approximate birth time. Add that - we found Walter Lee HIX in Clarendon, Monroe County, AR 1900 census. We found his alleged mother Elizabeth in Fayette County, TN 1850 census which is the area my grandpa was raised. We found a Samuel HIX from VA in Fayette Co., TN 1850 census but no Hewitt Merritt D. HIX. Any Clues appreciated. =============== 1 Hewitt Merritt D. Hix 1834 - b: Bef. 1834 in Virginia .. +Elizabeth Holloway 1834 - b: 1834 in Tennessee ......... 2 James Spencer Hix 1856 - b: Abt. 1856 ......... 2 John Hix 1858 - b: Abt. 1858 ......... 2 William Hix 1864 - b: Abt. 1864 ......... 2 Carrie Hix 1866 - b: Abt. 1866 ......... 2 Samuel Hix 1869 - b: Abt. 1869 Walter Lee Hix was born 1891. The 1900 census confirms that. Now if we can find Bert "the Barber" Hix in the same area, we'll nail our facts.

My great great grandmother was Mary SMALLEY. She married William Amos GRANT on June 14, 1855. Exactly where she was married I am not sure. It could have been Monmouth, Illinois where my great grantmother, Kate Emma GRANT was born. Kate married Frank EILENBERGER in 1860. Kate's daughter, Nellie GRANT, my grandmother married Harry Edmond WESTON in abt. 1920. My father, Robert Grant WESTON was born in 1921. When Robert was a few months old Harry and Nellie separated. I would very much like to find out more about Mary SMALLEY and her family. A SMALLEY family crest has been handed down to me from my grandmother. I have no idea where it originated from. I also would like information on Harry Edmond WESTON.
