School Districts
The Montgomery Board of Education  was form June 12, 1920 and the hand written records were in the secretary's John T. Barr's neat handwriting.

On June 12, 1920, A.S. Logan, W.A. Brakefield, John T. Barr and I.C. Chapman being duly elected in the school election in May went to the clerk office, Mt Ida, Arkansas, and were sworn in as members of the Montgomery County Board of Education. Immediately thereafter they repaired to the office of the County Superintendent and proceeded to elect W.A. Brakefield chairman, and John T. Barr acting secretary. The chairman declared the board duly organized and ready for the transaction of business.
For superintendent's salary $1800
For superintendent's office expenses $100
For expenses of County Board of Education $150
Fees for examination of teachers or renewals and endorsements or transfer of licenses be paid to the County Treasurer and Election for County Superintendent held July 29th 1920
Mr J.G. McLane of Washita was elected to the County Board of Education to fill the place of Mr Robert Watkins of Washita who refused to serve.

Ernest Berry was duly elected Superintendent of Schools for a term of six monthly beginning January 1st 1921 at a salary of $150 and a contract signed to that effect.

Oct 8th 1920
By motion G.T. Aldredge was appointed director in district No 23
By motion J.M. Roland was appointed in district No 44
By motion $6.08 the school tax of Arthur Standridge erroneously paid to district No 68 was transferred to district No 20
The County Superintendent was instructed to draw a correct map of the county showing all the district boundaries numbering the districts consecutively from one up.
By motion the boundary between 67 and 19 was changed to put W.N, Scott in District number 19
W.E. Sloane was appointed to serve as director in District No 13 until the may election, to succeed J.D. White.
By motion T.F. Hale was transferred from District No 64 to District No 43.
Alexander was appointed director in District No 49 to serve till the May election to succeed Elijah Abee.

Met March 1921. The following business was transacted:
H.T. Gaines was transferred from District No 50 to District No 40
Lee Moran was transferred from District No 40 to District No 50
A special election was granted on petition of more than 20 voters from District 25 and 15 to vote for and against consolidation.
An order was made confirming this consolidation of part of District No 29 in Garland County with District No 20 in Montgomery County.
The following were nominated as members of the County Board of Education: G.T. Taylor of Oden for 5 years and G.G. McLane of Washita for 1 year. Then adjoined.

The County Board of Education met in a call meeting April 25th 1921, with W.A. Brakefield, John T. Barr and J.G. McLane present. The vote of the special election in Districts 25 and 15 were canvassed and it was found that consolidation had carried by a vote of 26 for consolidation and 11 against consolidation. An order was made to consolidate the districts into Rural Special District No 8.
Adjoined to meet May 3 1921. 

The County Board of Education met May 3rd with W.A. Brakefield, John T. Barr and J.G. McLane present. 
Upon a petition presented by C.F. Black and others containing the names of 20 or more names of the legal voter of School District No 3 asked for a vote to make said District a Rural Special District the petition was granted. May 21st was designated as the time, Gaston School house as the place of voting and C.F. Black, C.A. Gaston and H.W. Black as the judges. 
The board ordered the following changes made in the boundary lines id district No 8 to include Sec. 31  T2S R26W, Sec.36 T2S R27W and Sec.25 T2S R27W.
By mutual agreement on part of the director of the districts 1 and 3, the N� of S� Sec 5 T3S R26W was ordered to become a part of District No 3.
Board adjourned to meet June 11 1921.

June 11 Regular Session
Secretary was instructed to write D. Haley and other (colored) and instruct them to appear before with necessary data to enable the board to take action in establishing them a school. 
James Coffman was elected to the Board to fill out the unexpired term of George McKnight who resigned.
John Rogers of Oden was elected by the board to serve as a member of the County Board of Education until the next regular school election in the place of G.T. Taylor who refused to qualify.
The vote in District No 3 was canvassed and the Board finding that the vote was unanimous for creating it as a Rural Special District. The order was made.

The County Board of Education met in this office June 17th 1921 with W.A. Brakefield, J.T. Barr, and Clyde McKnight present.
By motion B.A. Atchley was transfer from School District No 50 to School District No 40.
By motion Ed. M. Adams was transferred from School District No 69 in Montgomery County to School District No 61 in Garland County. 
By motion  N.M. Simpson was transferred from School District No 11 to School District No 24
By motion E.L. Powel, Oscar Noakes and Tom Noakes were appointed directors in District No 77 to serve till the next annual school election. Adjourned.

The County Board of Education met with W.A. Brakefield, John T. Barr, A.S. Logan and Clyde McLane present. By motion W.H. Scott was transfer from School District No21 to School District No 39.

The County Board of Education met in a special session June 28 1921 with W.A. Brakefield, J.T. Barr, Clyde McLane and Sam Goodner present. The matter of the election of the county superintendent was taken up. 
In the absence of the superintendent and with John T. Barr acting as secretary the full board went into the election of a Superintendent for the ensuring year. The following made applications for the office. M.A. Kellett, J.B. Williamson, Wayman Crook, Ernest Berry, J.H, Davis and W.G. Miller. A ballot was taken and Ernest Berry was re-elected to this position for one year upon his statement that he would not again apply for the position, upon motion the election was made unanimous. John T. Barr Acting Sec.
Motion was made and carried to make and appreciation of $584.70 from the Superintendents salary of $1800 to purchase a car for his use. This left $1215.00 for his salary which is to be paid to him at the rate of $100 per moth until the car is paid for. The car is to be the property of the Superintendent as a part of his yearly salary. This was done with the advise and consent of the County Superintendent. Motion was made to grant a temporary license to Sherril Smith.

The County Board of Education met in a regular session September 9th 1921 with W.A. Brakefield, John T. Barr, Sam Goodner and Clyde McLane present. 
By motion School District (colored) No 15 was created.
By motion J.R. Watson was transferred from District No 59 to District No 49 upon condition of paying back any back taxes he may owe to 49 for the past three years.

The County Board of Education met December 9th 1921 with W.A. Brakefield, S.S. Goodner, John T. Barr,  and Clyde McLane present. 
W.M. Reece was transferred from District No 1 to District No 8.
The application of I.W. Swindle for transfer from District No 14 to District No 13 was refused because of an affidavit stating that said transfer would leave fewer than 35 children in district No 14.
J.M. Smith was transferred from District No 13 to District No 28
W.V. Slaughter was transferred from District No 58 in Montgomery County to District No 24 in Clark Co.
By motion the secretary was instructed to write to G.W. Risenhoover for his reasons for transfer from District No 11 to District No 24 as there was a protest against his transfer.
David Standridge was transferred from District No 26 to District No 43.
G.I. Wilhite was transferred from District No 65 to District No 43.
Petition for changing boundary line between Districts 43, 65 and 11 refused because the law was not complied with.

The County Board of Education met 7th April 1922 with A.S. Logan, W.A. Brakefield, John T. Barr, S.S. Goodner, and Clyde McLane present. 
The following transfers were made:
W.R. Stovall from District No 34 to District No 7
Gaston Vines from District No 20 from District No 19
Tom McDonald from District No 20 from District No 19
G.W. Risenhoover from District No11 from District No 24
C.L. West from District No from District No 50

Edgar Black was appointed school director of District No 39 to fill the unexpired term of Lon Dillard.
The boundary line between Districts Nos 12 and 66 was changed by taking the following - scribed lands from District No 66 and adding them to District No 12.
Beginning at the SE corner of SW� of the fractional section No5 T1S R26W, running west 2� miles to SW corner of fractional section 1T1S R27W thence about 2 miles north to the county line, thence NE with county line to section line dividing section 20 and 30 T, N, then south with section line to baseline, thence to north of section 8 T1S R26W to place of beginning. 
secretary was instructed to write to Bert McLane explaining the policy of the Board in regard to the renewal of licenses.
The Ballot for County Superintendent resulted in the election of T.A. Humble for one year beginning July 1st, at a salary of $1800 per year. By motion the election of Mr Humble was made unanimous. Adjourned.

The County Board of Education met 30th June 1922 with A.S. Logan, John T. Barr, S.S. Goodner,  and George Irons present. The resignation of W.A. Brakefield was read and accepted.
C.H. Herndon was elected to fill the place of W.A. Brakefield until the next elections. The Board elected the following officers for the incoming year. C.H. Herndon, presided, John T. Barr secretary pro term.
Upon petition of more 20 than 20 of the patrons of districts 33,46, 58, and 80 praying for an election for the purpose of voting for or against consolidation of said districts into a Rural Special District the same was granted, July 12th was designated as the time, Mt Tabors as the place and N.A. Pennington, Oscar Hamilton and W.K. Pate were appointed Judges.
The following transfers were made:
F.L. Vines from district No 34 to district No 7
Geo. L. Golden from district No 14 to district No 13
Mrs Ed Garret from district No 14 to district No 31
James Sigmon from district No 2 to district No 46
By motion the boundary line between districts 71 and 14 were changed as follows:
Part of NE � of section 7, T4S R26W was taken from 71 and annexed to district No 14.
By motion Prof. T.A. Humble was invited to address the Board which he did.
