"They Can't Go Home"

In 1917 this area covered by Mountain township, Buckville, Cedar Glades, Bear and Crystal Springs ceded to Garland County, AR.  Mountain Township had twenty eight households in 1840 and by 1850 seventy five. 

The 1840 census included the head of the household name, number of free white males and females by age group, number of free colored males and females by age group, number of persons in each family employed in mining, commerce, manufacturing and trades, etc., pensioners for Revolutionary War or military services, schools, and the number of persons over 20 who can't read or write , number of slaves.

In 1845 there was 326 acres on the tax books for Montgomery County, AR and they were assessed at $1,179. There were 58 slaves between the ages of 8 and 60, valued at $22,800 and there was 1 sawmill assessed. The total evaluation for the county was $46,776.
