A new trend - 24% of the obituaries did not mention place of burial or if they were cremated.
Today the number of cremations are
increasing for a number of different reasons.
1. The expense. It is cheaper to be cremated than embalmed.
2. Time. Families are spread across the States or overseas and being cremated
allows time for family and friends to plan a memorial service and the less worry
of getting off work and out of school and arranging flights. It can be stressful
to arrange to bury someone within a few days but with cremation you have plenty
of time.
3. Families are often split - the ashes can be subdivided and can be buried in a
couple of different cemeteries.
4. Identify theft. Some people do not want a headstone with details on it.
5. The generation. Some prefer to donate organs and to be cremated.
6. Going Green. Cemeteries over time will run out of space and become over
crowded so being cremated and placed in a relatives plot saves space.
7. Cremated so can be taken home to CA etc.
