The following article appeared in the January 11, 1934 issue of The Nevada News. EMMET- NEARLY A COMPLETE TOWN We are a thriving little town; whereas we have the following: Two churches-Baptist and Methodist-and we all belong to one or the other. We do not just belong; but we are Christians with brotherly love. We do not talk about each other. We would run a mile to say a good word for our neighbors and we would not walk one step to say one word that would harm anyone. We all love each other as Christians should and want to see others do well and are for self by being for each other. We have a fine school which is out of debt and run by a board and teachers who know their business. We have a fine doctor who keeps doing his duty to humanity with or without pay-mostly without. We have a large mercantile business owned and operated by people who are the salt of the earth. By their works may ye know them. We have a photographer who makes, takes, and completes your photo right in town even to the tinting. He drives a 1916 model Ford. We have two meat markets operated by people who know their meat. If you don't believe it, try them. Now listen, we have some concrete sidewalks, too-thanks to President Roosevelt and his CWA. Say, we have three garages for you traveling public. If you don't like one, try the others. One would be a credit to Little Rock. One of these is a wood works factory, and if you don't believe Dave Weaver and Tom Hood can make anything out of wood that wood makes, try them. Say, you Masons and Eastern Stars; we have two of the finest lodges in the state which have some of the finest officers and members. We are surrounded by the best farming land in the state and have one of the best cotton markets in the state. If you don't believe us, try us. Well, there's a lot more about this little town, but we will let you know more about it later.
