I am searching in Navada county for any records about my family background there. I am the grandson of Claude Perry RAINES (18 Jan 1896-01 Mar 1967) who was the son of Thomas Lafat Raines (06 Sep 1861-06 Mar 1900) who was the son of Middleton Wood Raines (30 Jan 1818-31 Dec 1900) who was the son of Josiah Raines 1795-Jun 1837). I already have the data about where most of them are buried but desire any other information that may be available. I lived with my grandfather Claude Raines until I was 14 but he did not talk of his father or grandfather much since he was only four when they both died. He showed me a picture of Thomas Raines and he was a dark haired man with a dark Brigham Young type of beard. I was told that Thomas Raines died at thirty nine of pneumonia when he went back to work too soon after recovering from the flu. I was also told that Middleton Raines served in the Confederate Army at Gettysburg and was taken prisoner. My grandfather was rather negative about the North so I guess he heard that story. He was proud of his Southern heritage. Claude Raines was married to Tempie Mae DOWNS (01 Feb 1898-18 Oct 1962) who was the daughter of James William Downs (1877-1970) who was the son of William Mote Downs. I would appreciate any information about that part of my family. His siblings were Betty, Abraham, Joeseph, Victor, Milton, Miles, and Cleveland. I knew the last three but the first four were already gone when I was born. They all appear to have died quite young and I would appreciate any information that you might have. Thank you very much for your attention to this too long of a letter. Ray Nissen.

Oral history says the GORMANS came from Alabama, going first to Union County Arkansas and then moving to Nevada County Arkansas (William Henry Gorman is buried Nevada County). I don't really know where Rickett came from--perhaps Tennessee, but at the present time, I don't have any other Rickett family names to link him anywhere. My E-mail is Gtissot@aol.com -- George.

Nash, Charles D. Wed, 30 Aug 2000 09:59:24
In the mid 1890's my gg grandfather, William Perry NASH and his wife, Martha HALE moved their family from Henry County, GA to Clark County, AR. Many of their children and families settled in Clark and Hempstead Counties. One son, Lovick M. Nash, who married first May Ida ? settled in Navada County. I think Lovick and May are buried in Hempstead County. Lovick served in the Spanish-American War. I have yet to find his birth or death date. I believe he also had a son, Hale Nash who married Sadie. I recently found a Hale C. Nash on rootsweb.com and ss death records and I think I have a match. Do you know of any Nash connection in Navada County and are there any records on a Lovick M. Nash and/or his sister Carrie Nash who was a school teacher and lived in the area. I think they lived in Emmit. Thank you very much for your time and any help... I am searching for the final resting place of my ancestor Mary Susan BRANHAM, who died on 4 June 1922 and is supposedly buried in Prescott, Arkansas. She first married Edward JOLLY in St. Francis County. He died in 1879. Then she supposedly married a J.T.VOSS. Later, I find in a Confederate pension record, the surname of HAMLETT. So I expect that she may be buried as Mary Hamlett. Any help is deeply appreciated, thanks in advance. James Hamblin
