I'm researching a man named Lemual COOK who was born circa 1813 in So. Carolina, moved to Alabama and married Nancy L. MOSS @ 1832. They had six childing living with them as of the 1860 census, all of whom had been born in Alabama: Margarel (1837), Rhoda (1839), Josephine (1841), Laura (1844), Lemual (1852), & John A. (1855). In 1860 the family moved to Alabama Township, Columbia Co. (now Nevada Co.), AR. He was a lawyer. During the Civil War he served for about 1 year with Co. E & F of the 15th Arkansas Inf. (Gee's-Johnson's Reg.). Apparently Cook was captured twice and escaped both times. After year was up he did not reenlist. Was shot & killed in No. Arkansas while on a bushwacking raid near Ft. Smith/Clarkeville on April 18, 1864. I believe that he (and his family) are buried in Falcon Cemetery, Nevada Co., AR. Is this Cook any relation to your Cooks and do you have additional information on him? Thank you, John Beckendorf (jpbcoast@aol.com)
