INDEX TO

PRAIRIE COUNTY, ARKANSAS

CEMETERY INSCRIPTIONS

This is an EVERY name and place index to the only known cemetery book for this county, which was published in 1989. Dates are not included in this countywide index. There are no entries more current than the death date: 30 Sep 1989, therefore that name will NOT be in this index.

Please note: This is an EVERY NAME and PLACE index and therefore contains names of living individuals as well as persons who may or may not be buried in these cemeteries such as husband, wife or parent(s) of deceased individuals. This cemetery book also contains a brief history and/or location of many of the cemeteries as well as articles of historical significance. For example, a sentence in a synopsis of county history contains the following: "signed by Arkansas Governor, Thomas S. Drew". Governor Drew is, therefore, in the cemetery index but he is buried in Hood County, Texas, not Prairie County, Arkansas.

The entries in the cemetery book were all the work of the author, Marilyn Hambrick Sickel, of GRAND PRAIRIE RESEARCH. She gleaned data from the tombstones, compiled, and published it. Added to this information was data from the Caskey/now Garth Funeral Home Registers, in Des Arc, Arkansas, which have been microfilmed and are available for public viewing at the Arkansas History Commission in Little Rock. These records begin in 1919. The Westbrook Funeral Home Registers in Hazen, Arkansas, begin in 1959; however, no data from this company was included. There were no other sources available, with the exception of information provided by individuals who have contacted the author over the years.

Several cemeteries within one mile of the current Prairie County boundary lines have also been included in this book.
