BAYOU METO CEMETERY DECORATION DAYS
Location: off Hwy 67-167 Gregory Exit 10B - Hwy 161 Jacksonville AR Sunday, May 1, 2011. Volunteers will be present on Saturday, April 30, from 9 am to 5 pm and Sunday, May 1, from 9 am to 5 pm to accept contributions for cemetery maintenance. If you would prefer to mail a contribution please use the following address: Bayou Meto Cemetery Association % First Arkansas Bank & Trust Attn: Larry Wilson P. O. Box 827 Jacksonville, AR 72076 Please Note: Perhaps as important as your contribution, we need additional addresses of family members and other friends of the cemetery. Please include additional addresses with mailed-in contributions. Reminder: As some of you may know, the cemetery has been in existence since 1850 and is not a city owned cemetery. The commissioners of the cemetery are all volunteers. The donations we receive each year are used for maintenance on the cemetery. We have a contract for maintenance with Southern Landscaping (Melanie Felts), who does an excellent job of maintaining the appearance of the cemetery. During summer months they mow and trim, spray, pick up trash. In winter months they trim trees and pick up trash. We also utilize the services of WJR Service Co. (William & Paul Rhodes) to open and close graves and other landscaping work from time to time. We are fortunate to have these folks looking after the best interest of our cemetery. Cemetery Spaces for sale: We have a few spaces available for resale that have been turned back to the Cemetery. If you are interested in purchasing a space, contact Vestal Johnson at 501-988-5161. If you have spaces that you do not intend to use, please consider donating them back to the Cemetery. Proceeds from resale go toward improvements, maintenance, and upkeep of the Cemetery. Do You Know The Location Of Your Cemetery Space(s)? If you are not certain of the exact location of your space(s), it could be a problem if no cemetery board member is available to locate them on the day of need. Please see Dave Brannon to help you locate your space(s) for future reference. He will be available at the cemetery on Saturday April 30th and Sunday May 1st from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Cemetery Policies: 1. Caskets must be placed in an outer container (vault). Arrangements may be made through the funeral home for the vault. 2. Where a permanent marker (tombstone) is not already in place, a $200 deposit is required by the Cemetery before a burial can be made. A check is to be made payable to The Bayou Meto Cemetery Monument Fund and given to the Funeral Home conducting the service. The funeral home will then forward the check to David Brannon, and it will be deposited in the bank. If a permanent marker is placed within 6 months of burial, the entire deposit will be refunded. 3. The Cemetery welcomes the flowers that you place on your loved one’s grave. It is requested that you place them in such a manner that they do not impair the mowing and maintenance of the grounds (vases mounted on the tombstone or saddles on top of the stone). We have had complaints that flowers are missing from graves. Wind is the primary reason; the flowers end up along the back fence. If possible, flowers should be anchored in place. It would also be helpful to put your love one’s name on the flower arrangements. If the flowers get moved, we could then place them back in the proper location. 4. We had to have extensive drainage and road repair made to the North East corner of the Cemetery. The blacktop road was caving in causing a deep ditch, the drain was blocked causing water to stand on many graves in that area. 5. We now have a face book page which was added by Ms Linda Hatcher who has many relatives buried in our Cemetery.
