Whereas, by the Act of Congress approved September 28, 1850, entitled
"An Act to enable the STATE OF ARKANSAS and other States to Reclaim the
"SWAMP LANDS" within their limits." it is provided, that all the "SWAMP
and OVERFLOWED LANDS," made unfit thereby for cultivation within the
State of Arkansas, which remained unsold at the passage of said Act,
shall be granted to said State;

And, whereas, in pursuance of instructions from the General Land Office
of the United States, the several tracts or parcels of land hereinafter
described have been selected as "SWAMP" and "OVERFLOWED LANDS," enuring
to the said State under the Act aforesaid, being situated in the District of Lands subject to sale at Little Rock, Arkansas, to-wit: (among other lands) NE 1/4 and NE 1/4 NW 1/4 Section 20, Township 1 South, Range 11 West. according to the official plats of survey of the said lands, returned to the General Land Office by the Surveyor General, and for which the Governor of the said State of Arkansas, did, on the eighth day of Sept- ember one thousand eight hundred and fifty three, request a Patent to be issued to the said State, as required in the aforesaid Act. Sheet #2: Now, therefore, know ye, that the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, in consideration of the premises, and in conformity with the Act aforesaid, have given and granted, and by these presents do give and grant, unto the said State of Arkansas, in fee simple, subject to the disposal of the legislature thereof, the tracts of land above described. Certified as a correct exemplification of the record entitled "Swamp Land Patent No. 7 of Little Rock, Arkansas District," by Claude A. Rankin, Commissioner of State Lands. 5

as her securities, same is approved. (Application shown heirs to be George
H. Sizer, aged about 8 and Mary Kate Sizer, aged about 4.0

Plaintiffs state that ______ Holt died on the __ day of 19__
seized and posessed by following described land in Pulaski
County, Arkansas:
N 1/2 NE 1/4 & NE 1/4 NW 1/4, Section 20, Township 1 South,
Range 11 West and other land.

That Effie Jefferson was the wife of ________ Holt, and has
lived ever since upon the named lands, or a portion thereof,
but, that her dower has never been laid off and allotted to
her.  That the other Plaintiffs, Effie Holt and Magnolia Holt
and also the Defendants, Joe Holt and Mabel Holt and all 
children of Said deceased ________ Holt, and said Effie 
Jefferson ask the Court to appoint Commissioners to lay off 
her dower interest in said lands.  Plaintiffs, Effie Holt and
Magnolia Holt ask the Court to Decree a Partition of above
described lands.  Plaintiff Effie Jefferson states that at the
time of the death of her husband, there was a Mortgage on said
lands for $1000.00.  That she has paid off said Mortgage and
prays for order of contribution from the other heirs, for what
ever share may be found to be due.                          24

Come Joe Holt and Mayburn Holt and Effie Ewing (born Holt) and
say that A. B. Holt died seized of the lands described in
complaint, that he left a will (copy of which is attached).
That plaintiff Effie Jefferson accepted the provisions of said
Will in her favor, and continued to enjoy them until Jany. 1903
when by agreement she took 1/5 of said lands as her part to be
cultivated by her, in heir of any other claims under said Will,
until the lands should be finally divided according to said
Will.  That she has never renounced her claims under said Will,
and is therefore debarred from all claims for dower in said
