Marine Corporal Scottie L. Thomas, son of Mr. & Mrs. Eric Thomas of Route 2, & whose wife, Mary, is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Elvie Barnett of Route 5, all of Pocahontas, has been promoted to his present rank while serving at the Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point, N.C.

The local Draft Board forwarded eight Randolph County men to Little Rock Jan. 26 for induction into the Armed Forces. They were: Charles E. Dismang & Billie Acree of Maynard; James E. Turner & Willard Pendergrass of Rt. 1, Biggers; Troy C. Davis of Dalton; Ernest S. Ungerank, Maynard Route, Pocahontas; & Robert Z. McCandless, Rt. 1, Pocahontas. Edward E. Meeks was transferred from Rockford, Ill., for induction with this group.

Pv. William E. Waggoner is now stationed with the 155th Infantry Division at Camp Atterbury, Ind., but expects to be assigned overseas. His wife, the former Miss Fern Wooldridge of Pocahontas, left Friday for a stay of several weeks with Pvt. Waggoner before he leaves the States.

Cleatus Z. Bennett, son of Mr. & Mrs. Wesley Bennett of Pocahontas, & husband of the former Miss Allie A. Slayton of Route 2, recently was advanced to the rank of Seaman aboard the attack transport, USS Telfair.

Serving aboard the destroyer USS Lofberg is James W. Johnston, Storekeeper 3rd Class USN, son of Mr. & Mrs. Harold Johnston of Maynard.

Pvt. Frank W. Pulliam is enjoying a 10-day furlough with his parents, Mr. & Mrs. O.J. Pulliam of Biggers.

1st. Lt. Raymond D. Henley, son of Mrs. Zenna Henley of St. Louis & grandson of Mrs. G.F. Lemmons of Pocahontas, left Wednesday for overseas duty in Korea.

Deaths.....

John Finis Hamlin, 84, & his wife, Stella Hamlin, 72, died at their home on the Dalton Route less than one day apart.

Mrs. Mary Eskridge, 73, died in Memphis Sunday night at the Baptist Hospital.

William Harrison Field, 89, died at his home in East Pocahontas Jan. 20.

Robert Adams, 82, of the Maynard Route, died in Randolph County Hospital here Monday.

OBITUARIES

January 25, 2001

RETIRED MAJOR MARY CATHERINE BALTZ, 96, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, at Randolph County Medical Center. Miss Baltz was born Nov. 6, 1904 in Pocahontas, a daughter of the late John Joseph & Adelaide Bertha (Nuce) Baltz. Funeral services were held on Monday morning in St. Paul Catholic Church with Rev. David Jacobs officiating. Burial followed in St. Paul Cemetery under direction of McNabb's.

NOTRA NEVERLY GREEN, 63, of Warm Springs, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2001, in Pocahontas Nursing & Rehab Center.  Born March 8, 1937 near Warm Springs, she was a daughter of the late Mont & Lily Cole Moore. She is survived by her husband, Wayne Green of the home.  Graveside services were held Tuesday at the Warm Springs Cemetery with Wayne Cloven officiating. McNabb Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

FRANK GARFIELD LEWIS JR., 69, of 2007 Carter St., Pocahontas, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, at St. Bernards' Regional Medical Center, Jonesboro. Born June 14, 1932, in Mississippi County, Ark., he was a son of the late Frank Garfield Sr. & Exie Arbell (Stutts) Lewis. Surviving is his wife, Gloria Lewis of the home. Funeral services were held Monday at First Baptist Church of Pocahontas with Rev. Don Strait officiating. Burial followed in Shady Grove Cemetery in Clarendon, with McNabb Funeral Home in charge.

JOHNNY MELVIN BAKER, 61, of 1907 Scott St., Pocahontas, died in Randolph County Medical Center Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001. Born Aug. 4, 1939 in Atkins, he was a son of the late Arvil Franklin & Minnie Lee (King) Baker. Surviving is his wife, Bonnie Baker, of the home. Funeral services were conducted in Sallisaw, Okla., with Agents Funeral Home in charge. Local arrangements are under direction of McNabb Funeral Home.

MARY ELIZABETH 'LIZZI' JACKSON, 99, of 1812 Dogwood, Pocahontas, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, at Randolph County Medical Center. She was born June 6, 1901 near Williford, a daughter of the late John Amos & Minnie (Dotson) Ratliff. Her husband, Troy James Jackson preceded her in death. Funeral services were held Jan. 18 in the Chapel of McNabb Funeral Home with Ron Berry officiating. Burial followed in Masonic Cemetery.

MARY KATHRYN LEWIS, 81, of Pocahontas, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001. She was born Dec. 4, 1919, near Corning, a daughter of the late John & Eathel (Phelps) Davis. There were no services as the body was cremated. Cox-Waymon Funeral Home of Pocahontas was in charge of arrangements.

DENA LOUISE AUSTIN, 83, of Pocahontas, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001. She was born March 1, 1917, near Dalton, a daughter of the late Lee & Gladys (Hogue) Gregory. Surviving is her husband, Charles E. Austin of the home. Funeral services were held Tuesday in the Chapel of Cox-Waymon Funeral Home with Larry Owen officiating. Burial followed in Randolph Memorial Gardens.

JOHN WHITE JR., 71, of 2526 Rosewood, Jonesboro, died Friday at his home.  Born in Ravenden Springs, he was a graduate of Ravenden Springs H.S. & attended Ark. State College. Survivors include his wife, Anna Sue Peace White of the home; one dau., Emily Sue Conrad of Jonesboro; two sons, John M. White & Ronald White, both of Jonesboro; two sisters, Pearl Broadway & Pauline Bunch, both of Pocahontas; two brothers, A.B. White of DeKalb, Ill., & Carl White of Warm Springs, grandchildren, etc. He was preceded in death by one bro. & one g'child. Graveside services was held Mon. at Jonesboro Mem. Park Cem. with Rev. Emil Williams officiating. Emerson Funeral Home of Jonesboro in charge of arrangements.

Adj. 2 Garry Hibbard has been named VAQ-137 Sailor of the Quarter for the last quarter of 1976 in Oak Harbor, Wash. Hibbard is the son of Mr. & Mrs. Eugene Hibbard of Rt. 2, Pocahontas, & is married to the former Quita Ginnett of Anacortes, Wash. He is being transferred to Texarkana, Ark., where he will serves as a Navy recruiter.

Gain, Engelberg Rt., Pocahontas, Ralph Flanigan, Ingram, Judd English, Rt. 2, Ravenden & Paul Luter, Biggers. Paul K. Lewis Jr. was transferred from his own board in Calif. & forwarded with this group for examination.

Mrs. Glenda Hibdon, former commercial teacher at PHS, & her two children, Barbara & Glen, sailed for Frankfurt, Germany on Jan. 22 to join her husband, Master Sgt. George Hibdon, who has been stationed there since May, 1952.

WILBUR DAWSON, 62, of Warm Spring, died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001 at the John Cochran V.A. Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. He was born Aug. 4, 1938 in Pocahontas, a son of Hazel (Mays) Dawson Vandergriff of Pocahontas & the late Dow Benton Dawson. Funeral services were held Saturday in the Chapel of McNabb Funeral Home with Rev. Don Strait officiating. Burial followed in Masonic Cemetery.

GOLDIE UTNAGE, 78, of Imboden, died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001, at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center, Jonesboro. She was born Sept. 27, 1922 in Alton, Ill., a daughter of the late Albro & Inez Elizabeth Burton. Graveside services were held at Memorial Park Cemetery in St. Louis, Mo., under the direction of Math Herman Funeral Home of St. Louis. Local arrangements were under dirction of McNabb Funeral Home.

ANTHONY SHAWN COWSERT, 26, of Pocahontas, died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001. He was born July, 18, 1974 in Washington, Mo., a son of Karl Cowsert of Missouri & Rita Glascock of Camdenton, Mo. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Christina Cowsert of the home. Graveside services were held Saturday, Jan. 27, at Chesser Cemetery with Jim Cowsert officiating.  Cox-Waymon Funeral Home directed the services.

KENNETH BYRON WELLS, 47 of Ravenden, died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001. He was born Oct. 1, 1953, a son of Bill & Maudie Wells of Ravenden. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Kathryn (Uption) wells of the home. Graveside services were held Jan. 25 at Wells Cemetery with Steve Prestige officiating.

VIVIAN GOWEN, 88 of Datto, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, at Oakdale Nursing Facility in Jonesboro. She was born Aug. 13, 1912 near Datto, a daughter of the late George & Nellie (Morgan) Rawlings. Her husband, Willie E. Gowen, preceded her in death on Feb. 2, 1997. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Datto Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Boyce Cate officiating. Burial followed in Nelson Cemetery near Reyno under direction of Ermert Funeral Home of Corning.

GERTRUDE BLACKWOOD, 86, of North Little Rock, died Jan. 28, 2001. She was preceded in death by her parents, J.T. & Bessie Mackey Nutt. She is survived by her husband, Marcus Blackwood. Funeral services were held Wednesday at Roller-Owens Funeral Home Chapel in North Little Rock with Dr. S. Cary Heard officiating. Interment was in Rest Hills Memorial Park there.

JAMES ROBERT 'JACK' THOMPSON, 74, of Pocahontas, died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center, Jonesboro. Born Jan. 9, 1927 in Pocahontas, he was a son of the late James Robert Sr. & Mary (Seagraves) Thompson. He is survived by his wife, Louise Frances (Cude) Thompson of the home. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning in the Chapel of McNabb Funeral Home with G.W. Allison officiating. Burial followed in Masonic Cemetery.

MEN IN SERVICE:

Pvt. Vance Cupp Jr. left Jan. 20 for induction into the Army & is at present stationed at Camp Leonard Wood, Mo. His wife is the former Maxine Stone, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Joe Stone, Rt. 1, Walnut Ridge. Lt. Thomas Z. James, who has been stationed in Alaska since April 1952, has been promoted to 1st. Lieutenant.

Pfc. Hubert A. Brodell, son of John Brodell of the Engleberg Route, was recently promoted to the rank of Corporal at Fort Bragg, N.C.

Staff Sgt. Billy F. Luter, son of Mr. & Mrs. Clarence Luter of Biggers, was promoted to that rank on Dec. 11, 1952, while serving at the Wiesbaden Air Base in Germany.

Navy Lt. Comdr. Paul D. Tyler, son of Mr. & Mrs. Jesse G. Tyler of Biggers, & husband of Mrs. Patricia A. Tyler of St. Louis, was aboard an airship from the Naval Air Facility Weeksville, that participated in the aerial photographic coverage of the recent Presidential Inauguration.

DEATHS:

R.L. Baker of Middlebrook died at his home Feb. 5.

Otis M. Spencer, aged 56, died at his home on Route 2 Friday.

John S. Leonard, aged 67, a native of Randolph County died in a Lansing, Mich., hospital Jan. 26.

Mrs. Rebecca DeWitt Oldham died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Zadie L. Smith, at Reyno, Jan. 23, 1929. She came to Arkansas in 1899.

Mrs. J.C. Overstreet, aged 73, died at her home in Walnut Ridge.

Judge A.A. McCollum, aged 96, father of Mrs. E. Dalton of Pocahontas, died at his home in Atkins Jan. 25.

Mrs. Mary Ponder, aged 90, died at her home in Walnut Ridge.

Marion Jones, aged 67, of Union died Wednesday night. Interment was in Siloam Cemetery.

CHRISTEEN AINLEY, 89, died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at the Pocahontas Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. She was born Oct. 15, 1911 near Poyner, Mo., a daughter of the late Alva & Lucy Hamilton Hopper. She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Ainley. Funeral services were held Feb. 1, in Ermert Funeral Home Chapel in Corning with Rev. David Richie & Rev. Marvin Travelstead officiating. Burial followed in Corning Cemetery.

BETTY LU HUNTER, 78, of Warm Springs, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001 at Randolph County Medical Center. She was born May 7, 1922 in Sioux City, Iowa, a daughter of the late Joseph & Claudene (Berry) Kenitzer. Her husband, Jess Hunter, preceded her in death. Private funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 23, with McNabb Funeral Home in charge.

IMA EARLE WHITTENBURG, 95, of Pocahontas, died Monday, Feb. 5, 2001, at the Pocahontas Nursing & Rehab. Center. She was born March 30, 1905 in Bows, Ky., a daughter of the late William & Ora (Davis) Heflin. Her husband, W.C. Whittenburg also preceded her in death. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning in the Warm Springs Free Will Baptist Church with Wayne Cloven officiating. Burial followed in the Warm Springs Cemetery under direction of McNabb Funeral Home.

JOHN WHITE, JR., 71, of 2526 Rosewood, Jonesboro, died Friday, Jan. 27, 2001, at his home there. Born in Ravenden Springs, he is survived by his wife, Anna Sue Peace White of the home. Graveside services were held Monday, Jan. 29, at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Emil Williams officiating. Emerson Funeral Home of Jonesboro was in charge of arrangements.

BOBBY JOE ROBINSON, 70, of 57 Margo Lane, Pocahontas, died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2001, at his home. Born March 1, 1930, in Randolph County, he was a son of the late Herbert & Myrul (Chastine) Robinson. He is survived by his wife, Juanita Robinson of the home. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning in the Chapel of McNabb Funeral Home with Terry Martin officiating. Burial followed with full Military Honors in Randolph Memorial Gardens.

AUBREY LEE McQUAY, 56, of Pocahontas, died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2001 at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center, in Jonesboro. He was born Sept. 14, 1944 in Sedgwick, a son of Earl L. McQuay & Blondie M. (Connor) McQuary, who survive. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon in the Chapel of McNabb Funeral Home with Dub Holt officiating. Burial followed in the McQuay Family Cemetery near Pocahontas.

EULA MATTIE LUTTRELL, 92, of Brookland, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, at Skilcare Nursing Center in Jonesboro. She was born June 12, 1908 in Beech Grove, a daughter of the late Charley & Hattie (Davidson) Powell. Her husband, James Edward Luttrell, also preceded her in death. Funeral services were held Monday in the Chapel of McNabb Funeral Home with G.W. Allison officiating. Burial follwed in Masonic Cemetery here.

DR. & MRS. JACK (RAMONA BOWERS) WHITAKER passed away recently. Ramona died on Christmas Eve, 2000 & Jack died on Dec. 26. Services were held Dec. 30 at First Presbyterian Church in Anderson, Ind. with the Rev. Rick Chimera officiating. Private burial was in East Maplewood Cemetery. Dr. Whitaker was born in Kirk, Colo. Ramona Bowers Whitaker was the daughter of William Joseph (Joe) Bowers & Charline J. Shores Bowers, both of Northeast Arkansas.

MEN IN SERVICE

Airman 1st. Class Clark L. Matheny has arrived in Germany for duty at Bitburg Air Base. He is a 1974 graduate of Maynard High School, & his wife, Rebecca, is the daughter of Mr.& Mrs. Zan Brown of Rt. 2, Pocahontas Marine Private First Class Leonard E. Cooper, son of Mr. & Mrs. Claud E. Cooper of Rt. 5, Pocahontas, has been promoted to his present rank while serving with the 1st. Marine Division, Camp Pendelton, Calif.

Army Private Robert L. Hamilton, 19, whose wife, Margaret, & mother, Mrs. Mona V. Meeks, live on Rt. 2, Pocahontas, recently was assigned to the 85th Field Artillery Detachment in Germany. Hamilton is a 1976 graduate of Pocahotas High School.

Army Private Ricky L. Atkins, son of Mr. & Mrs. Charles L. Atkins, of Rt. 1, Pocahontas, has completed an eight-week power generator course at the U.S.

Army Engineer School, Fort Belvoir, Va. A 1974 graduate of Pocahontas High School, he entered the Army in Sept., 1976.

Danny R. Persful, son of Mr. & Mrs. Emmitt R. Persful, Rt. 1, Ravenden, was promoted on Jan. 27 to Army Specialist Four while serving with the 101st. Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Ky.

BABY TALK

Mr. & Mrs. Robert Counts were in Jonesboro last week to welcome the arrival of their great-grandchild, Maggie Brooke Osborn, born Sunday, Feb. 13. Her parents are Mr. & Mrs. Jerry Osborn of Jonesboro. Grandparents are Mr. & Mrs. Harold Bennett & Mr. & Mrs. JIm Osborn, all of Jonesboro. The other great-grandparent is Mrs. Wesley Bennett of Pocahontas.

A son was born to Mr. & Mrs. Jimmy Rice of Delaplaine Tuesday of last week at St. Bernard's Hospital in Jonesboro.

The body of Pvt. John D. Romine, son of Mr. & Mrs. Edgar D. Romine of Pocahontas, was one of 126 American soldiers killed in the Korean fighting scheduled to arrive in San Francisco last Tuesday. Pvt. Romine was the first Randolph County soldier to lose his life in Korea.

Pvt. Deloss Walker leaves Friday after an eight-day furlough with his mother, Mrs. Dora Walker & children at O'Kean.

Pvt. Ronald Slayton, a 1950 graduate of Pocahontas High School, is stationed at Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas.

Pvt. Ray Neal Rose arrived in Pocahontas Monday for a furlough with his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Ed Rose & family.

Clyde Camp, 42, died at his home near Five Mile Spring Tuesday morning .

Mrs. Lillie Jane Malone, 76, died at her home on Rt. 2, Pocahontas, Saturday morning following a brief illness.

Mrs. Clarice May Abshier Johnson, 53, of Maynard, died in Rockford, Ill., while visiting her husband who is employed there.

JOHN F. SPIKES, 83, a former mayor of Pocahontas, died Tues., Feb. 13, 2001, at Randolph County Medical Center. He was born Nov. 9, 1917, in Randolph County, a son of the late Jack & Ina Elizabeth Johnson Spikes. He is survived by his wife, Pauline (Spradley) Spikes. Funeral services were held Friday in the Chapel of McNabb Funeral Home with Terry Martin officiating. Burial followed in Masonic Cemetery.

BETTY LEOTA RAMSEY, 79, of 214 Concord Trail, Pocahontas, died Mon., Feb. 12, 2001, at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center, Jonesboro. She was born Feb. 4, 1922 in Flint, Mich., a daughter of the late James John & Blanche (Babcock) Gee. She is survived by her husband, Ben Ramsey of the home. Graveside services were held Wednesday afternoon at Clear Creek Cemetery in Springfield, Mo., with Dr. James Pierce officiating. McNabb Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

MARION LEE FOSTER, 77, of Biggers, died Thur., Feb. 15, 2001, at the Pocahontas Nursing & Rehab Center. Born July 25, 1923, in Randolph County, he was a son of the late John & Ellen (Hampton) Foster. He is survived by his wife, Vada Mae (McGhee) Foster of the home. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon in Biggers Baptist Church with Loy Culver officiating. Burial followed in Hite Cemetery near Biggers with McNabb Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

DORTHA MAE LADD, 84, of Reyno, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at Pocahontas Nursing & Rehab Center. She was born June 14, 1916 in Reyno, a daughter of the late Oak & Eathel (Chorice) Halford. Her husband, Elmo Ladd also preceded her in death. Funeral services were held Monday morning in Reyno Church of Christ with Darrell Fears officiating. Burial followed in Nelson Cemetery near Reyno with McNabb Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

LELA DAVIS TANKSLEY, 88, of Jonesboro, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, at St. Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro. She was born May 27, 1912 in Tyronza. Her husband, George Davis, preceded her in death. Funeral services were held Friday morning, Feb. 16, at Roller-Farmers Union Chapel with David Johnson officiating. Burial followed in Pine Log Cemetery.

MARGIE RUDD, 71, of Corning, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001, at Clay Healthcare in Corning. She was born Aug. 13, 1929, in Tenn., a daughter of the late Frank & Minnie (Morphis) Rudd. SALLIE E. FOWLER, 97, of Biggers, died Fri., Feb. 16, at her home in Biggers. Born in Marion, Ky., to Ulie & Nora Stallions Threlkeld, she was a resident of this area most of her life. In addition to her parents, her husband, Paul Elwin Fowler preceded her in death. LENORA VINSON, 87, of Corning, died at Clay Health Care in Corning, Sat., Feb. 17, 2001. She was born Oct. 27, 1913, in Success, a daughter of the late Elmer & Edna (Edwards) Foster. DEREK CHANCE LONEY, 26, of Pocahontas, died Fri., March 2, 2001, at the University of Arkansas Medical Center in Little Rock. He was born May 8, 1974 in Harbor City, Calif., a son of Edward L. MARJORIE PEDERSON, 84, of Wentzville, Mo., died Feb. 24, 2001 at the Crossroads Hospsital, Wentzville, Mo. She was predeceased by husband, Wilbur G. Pederson. She was the daughter of the late Caleb & Susie (Kilcrease) Dillport of the Richwood community in Lawrence Co. Funeral services were held at the Baue Funeral Home in Wentzville, Feb. 28, conducted by Rev. Devin Jones. Burial was in Eternal Peace Cemetery.

JOHN BROWN ABANATHY, a 75-year-old native of Pocahontas, died in Washington, Mo., recently. He was born on Jan. 10, 1925 in Pocahontas, a son of the late Claude Edgar & Iddie Della Abanathy. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Abanathy of the home. The funeral services were held Feb. 26 at the Oltmann Funeral Home in Washington, with Rev. David Armstrong officiating. Interment was in the Presbyterian Cemetery in Washington.

MATTIE KING, 90, of Pocahontas, died Feb. 17, 2001. She was born Aug. 24, 1910 in Ravenden, a daughter of the late William Pettis Ehrhardt & Martha Lou Vena Nobels Ehrhardt. She was united in marriage Nov. 2, 1935 in Kennett, Mo., to Almus Daniel King, who also preceded her in death.

Pvt. O'Neal Dean of Rt. 1, Walnut Ridge, is now located at Camp Atterbury, Ind., taking basic military training. Pfc. Leroy Thompson landed back in the States March 12 after serving as a cook with the Seventh Field Artillery in Korea.

Pvt. Arnold C. Vance of Dalton was inducted into the military service on Feb. 26 & is now taking his basic training at Fort Lewis, Wash.

Three Randolph County men have just completed basic training at North Fort Hood, Texas. They are Cletus W. Scott of Dalton. E.L. Yancy of Englebert & James W. Nipps of Rt. 1, Pocahontas.

Marine Master Sergeant Edd Dudley Ownby retired from active duty at Beaufort, S.C., Feb. 28. He enlisted in the Marines in 1929 at Little Rock.

Born Feb. 2, 1932 in Pocahontas, he was a son of the late Vince & Josie (McElmurry) Johnson. He is survived by his wife, Pat (Hardin) Johnson of the home. Funeral services were held Mon. afternoon at First Baptist Church with Rev. Don Strait officiating. Burial followed in Antioch Cemetery under direction of McNabb Funeral Home.

CHARLES SKINNER SHIVLEY, 90, of Little Rock, died Sun., March 18, 2001. He was born May 21, 1910 in Pocahontas, a son of the late John R. & Nicie Jane (Hawkins) Shivley. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Lucile Esmon Shivley. Arrangements were by North Little Rock Funeral Home. GARRY DEAN HAYNES, 37, of 2104 Old County Road, Pocahontas, died Fri., March 16, 2001 at his home. Born Nov. 16, 1963 in Rockford, Ill., he was a son of Pauline (Ingram) Haynes of Pocahontas & the late Dailey Haynes. DR. M. GRAHAM CLARK JR., died at his home March 15, 2001. He was born Feb. 25, 1909 at Charlotte, N.C., to the late Montague Graham Clark Sr. & Alice Graham Clark. He was also preceded in death by his wife. Funeral services were held Mon. morning in the Chapel of Whelchel Funeral Home in Branson,  Mo., with Rev. E. Wayne Adcock officiating. Interment was in Ozark Memorial Park, Branson.

Calvin Roy Carlton, son of Mr. & Mrs. Roy Carlton of Reyno, has enlisted in the U.S. Air Force's delayed enlistment program. He will graduate from Biggers-Reyno H.S. this year & is secheduled for enrollment in the regular A.F. in June.

Navy Seaman Apprentice Randy Joe Crisp left for San Diego, Calif., Sat. after a two-week stay with his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Joe Crisp of Pocahontas. He graduated in 1975 from Pochontas H.S.

Larry Dean Crisp, son of Mr. & Mrs. Homer Crisp of Rt. 2, Pocahontas, has enlisted in the U.S. Air Force's delayed enlistment program. After graduation in May he will enlist in the regular A.F. & undergo basic training.

JOSEPHINE CECILIA THIELEMIER, 87, of Pocahontas, died Fri., March 23, 2001, at Randolph Co. Medical Center. She was born March 12, 1914 in Randolph Co., a daughter of the late Francis Xavier (Sol) Pheffer & the late Mary (Rotsziner) Pfeffer. She is survived by her husband, Frank Thielemier of Pocahontas. Funeral services were held Mon. at St. John's Catholic Church with Kevin Atunzu conducting the service. Burial followed at St. John's Cem. under the direction of McNab Funeral Home.

MAUDIE JEWEL GRANT, 63, of Maynard, died Sat., March 24, 2001, at St. Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro. She was born June 6, 1937, a daughter of the late Irven & Mamie (Tinker) Bell.
