The picture above is a tribute to Dr. James Erskine Smith, a Reyno resident and a member of a pioneer Randolph County family, many of whom became medical doctors. Dr. Smith's two sons, Norman K. Smith of Pocahontas, and the late Reginald E. Smith, followed in the footsteps of their ancestors and also entered the medical profession, as general practitioners. Dr. J.E. Smith, although a resident of Randolph County, established an office in Corning in 1946, and was still a practicing physician there at the time that this photograph was taken around 1974.....dedicating 61 years of medical service to residents in this section of Arkansas. Dr. Smith was born February 26, 1889 at Oxford, one of five children born to Dr. James L. Smith and his wife, Mary Croom, who were married in 1883.
