This is one of the oldest pictures yet published in the Star Herald's old picture series. The above is McIlroy School in about 1890. Beatrice Thompson is the teacher and the only other person that is identified in the picture is Charley Gates, uncle of the late Ed Gates of Pocahontas. Donald F. Scott of Box 67, Velma, Okla. 72091, furnishes this photo and states that he doesn't know which one in the picture is Mr. Gates, but he is thought to be one of the older boys. In 1892, Beatrice Thompson married Joseph Hufstedler and this couple has several descendants living in Randolph County at present, including Reo Fielden, Clay, Nema and Ruby Hufstedler of Route 2, Myrle Gates of Pocahontas, and Helen Ballard of Route 3, Duncan, Okla., all are children of Beatrice Thompson Hufstedler. Other children of this couple were the late Nell, Curt, Clyde and Jake Hufstedler.
