We, the undersigned, sitting as a Pension Board for Scott County, do certify that we have examined the application of the within named Mrs. Fannie Bentley for pension, under Act of the General Assembly of the State of Arkansas, as approved March 11, 1901, and the proof in support of same, and find that said applicant is the widow of a Confederate soldier, is in indigent circumstances, and that her claim is just, and that she should be allowed $50.00 pension.

WIDOW'S APPLICATION FOR PENSION

STATE OF ARKANSAS}
County of Scott}
I, Fannie Bentley, do solemnly swear that I am the widow of J.F. Bentley, deceased, who served as a soldier in the army of the Confederate States, being a member of Col. McConnell's Co. "E" 39th Regiment of Infantry Vols. from the State of Georgia, Walker County; that he was honorably paroled or released from such service on or about the spring of the year 1865 at the close of the war and did not desert the same; that I am now, and for the past twelve months have been, a bona fide resident of this State; that I do not own property, real or personal, or both, or money or choses in action, in excess of the value of $400.00 (exclusive of household goods and wearing apparel), nor have I conveyed title to any property to enable me to draw a pension, and that I am not in receipt of any income, annuity, pension or ages for any services, the emoluments of an office, in excess of $150.00 per year; that my said husband died after the close of the war in Scott County, Arkansas on the 18 day of April 1899 and that I have not since remarried, so help me God.

On this day personally came before the undersigned, a Circuit Clerk within and for the County of Scott and State of Arkansas, J.M. Shirey, a citizen of near Cauthron, Scott Co., Ark., whom I certify to be a creditable person and worthy of confidence, who being duly sworn, states that he is personally, well acquainted with spplicant Mrs. Fannie Bentley, widow of J.F. Bentley, dec'd. and have known her for 20 years.
That she is now, and has been for the past twelve months a bona fide resident of Arkansas. That she is incapacitated for manual labor by reason of advanced age. That to the best of my knowledge, all property now owned by her the said Mrs. Fannie Bentley is not worth exceeding $400 (exclusive of household goods and wearing apparel). That she is not in receipt of any income, annuity, pension or wages for any services, or the emoluments of an office, in excess of $150 per year. That I have no interest in this claim.

On this day personally came before the undersigned, a Circuit Clerk within and for the County of Scott and State of Arkansas, Jesse Oliver and S.A. Bentley, citizens of Brawley, Ark., whom I certify to be creditable persons and worthy of confidence, who being duly sworn, state that they are each personally, well acquainted with applicant Francis Bentley, widow of J.F. Bentley, deceased and have known her for 15 years, that is affiant Oliver has known her for 15 years and affiant S.A. Bentley says he has known her all his life or as far back as he can remember. That she is now and has been for the past twelve months a bona fide resident of Arkansas. That she is incapacitated for manual labor by reason of advanced age and feeble health and that such incapacity (or disability) is not the result of her own vicious habits still persisted in. That to the best of our knowledge, all property now owned by her is not worth exceeding $400 (exclusive of household goods and wearing apparel.) That she is not in receipt of any income, annuity, pesnion or wages for any services, or the emoluments of an office, in excess of $150 per year. That we have no interest in this claim.

Dear Sir:
Enclosed herewith please find affidavit of Thos. D. Self in pension claim of Mrs. Fannie Bentley as widow of J.F. Bentley, deceased. This affidavit was omitted by oversign when we sent you the papers in Mrs. Bentley's claim, and had been mislaid. Thos. D. Self is on the pension roll and he was a comrade of J.F. Bentley, deceased, husband of applicant Mrs. Fannie Bentley, and Mr. Self told me when he made the affidavit that the deceased soldier was a true soldier in every sense of the word. Please place

PROOF OF SERVICE FOR WIDOW
(By Comrades of Husband if Possible)

On this day personally came before the undersigned, a Clerk Circuit Court within and for the County of Scott and State of Arkansas, Thos. D. Self a citizen of Waldron, Ark. whom I certify to be a creditable person and worthy of confidence, who being duly sworn, states that he was personally, well acquainted with applicant's husband J.F. Bentley, deceased, and knew him for at least 40 years prior to his death. That he was a Confederate soldier. Belonging to Company "E" in Col. McConnell's 39th Regiment of Ga. Infty. Vols. That as such soldier he served from about April, 1862 to the close of the War in the spring of 1865. That he was honorably paroled or released from such service and did not desert the same. That he is now dead and that his widow has been for the past twelve months a bona fide resident of Arkansas. That I served in same Company and Regiment with soldier. That I have no interest in this claim.
