CLAUDE SELF

Claud_ Self has lived within three miles of his birthplace for 80 years and he feels very fortunate to have lived in Scott County. He was born on January 9, 1901 to William & Allie Brothers Self. He attended school at the Friendship Community School and he has been a farmer, stockman and timber worker. He and his wife, Flara, celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary March 21st. They have three children, Laverne Boggs and Tressie Wagner of Waldron and Melba Renfrow of Lavaca, AR and eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. His church affiliation is Baptist. His pa, W.A. Self, who was his friend and his dad, helped him get set up in his first financial dealing. He gave him a field of cotton to plant when he was 15 years old. When fall rolled around he had a whole bale of cotton to sell. His pa would always help him out with a couple hundred pounds or whatever was needed, if he did not have quite enough cotton to make a bale. He always had a bale of cotton to sell each fall. Mr. Self also did a little horse trading, but states it is too long a story to go into right now.
