APPLICATION FOR PENSION

STATE OF ARKANSAS)
County of Scott)
To the Honorable County Court of Scott County.
The undersigned applicant for a pension under an act of the General Assembly of the State of Arkansas, approved April 1st, 1891, and amendments thereto, being duly sworn, states that his name is John Cox, his age is 49 years, that he has resided in this State for 17 years, that he is not receiving aid from the State of Arkansas or any other State or government for injuries received in the war between the States.

That he enlisted at Morristown, Tenn. on or about the [blank] day of May or June 1861 in Company "C", commanded by Capt. Coke in the 37th Regiment of Tenn. Vols. commanded by Col. White in Confederate State Service. Afterwards re-enlisted in Company "C" in the 37th Regiment of Tenn. Vols. commanded by Capt. Long in same service. That while a member of said Company in said service and while in the line of duty at or near Atlanta, Ga., in the State of Georgia, on or about the 22 day of July 1864 he received a gun shot wound.

(Describe the kind, character and resulting consequences of wound or wounds.)
Was wounded in left hand by a leaden bullet from the hands of the enemy while engaged in a battle near Atlanta, Ga., the ball striking about between the middle and little finger joins of left hand taking off finger at the joint next to hand and from the affects of which wound my little and middle fingers are crossed and stiff which wound has always greatly interfered with certain kinds of work and has been considerably in the way of my earning a living by manual labor.

My means of support are about as follows: I make my living by working on the farm as it is the only occupation I have ever followed for a living and do the best I can - however the said wound has always been a great hindrance in performing certain kinds of farm work.

Subscribed and sworn to before me this 24th day of May 1894.
