WIDOW'S APPLICATION FOR PENSION

I, Martha Farnsworth, do solemnly swear that I was born on the 21st day of March 1852 and that I am the widow of George Washington Farnsworth, who served as a soldier in the army (or sailor in the navy) of the Confederate States, being a member of Richmond Campaign Regiment of Infantry (Under Captain Brady) from the State of Georgia or a member of the crew of the ship called [blank]; that he was honorably discharged (paroled or released) from such service on or about the [blank] day of [blank] 1865 (Served during the entire war) and did not desert the same; that I am now, and for the past twelve months have been a bona fide resident of this State; that I do not own property, real or personal, or both, or money, or choses in action, in excess of the value of $400.00 (exclusive of household goods and wearing apparel), nor have I conveyed title to any property to enable me to draw a pension, and that I am not in receipt of any income, annuity, pension or wages for any services, the emoluments of an office in excess of $150.00 per year; that my said husband died March 3rd, 1881. I remarried to T.P. Watson and he died August 11th 1927, and I have not remarried since the death of my second husband. and that I have not since remarried, so help me God.

We, the undersigned, sitting as a Pension Board for Scott County, do certify that we have examined the application of the within named Martha Farnsworth for pension, under Act of the General Assembly of the State of Arkansas, as approved March 11, 1901, and the proof in support of same, and find that said applicant is the widow of a Confederate soldier, is in indigent circumstances, and that her claim is just, and that she should be allowed $[blank] pension.

On this day personally came before the undersigned, a Notary Public within and for the County of Scott and State of Arkansas, J.M. Bird citizens of Scott whom I certify to be credible persons and worthy of confidence, who, being duly sworn, state that they were each, personally, well acquainted with applicant's husband George Washington Farnsworth and knew him from 1865 until his death in 1881.
That he was a Confederate soldier belonging to Company Infantry Regiment of Richmond Campaign under Caption [sic: Captain] Brady.
That as such soldier he served from 1861 to 1865 close of war. That he was honorably discharged, paroled or released from such service and did not desert the same.
That my knowledge of these facts comes from association with the soldier, living in the same community with the soldier and by conversation with him and my own general knowledge of the facts from observation and information obtained from the said soldier and others.
That to the best of our knowledge all property owned by her is not worth exceeding $500.00, not including the value of her homestead,* or household goods. That she is not in receipt of any income, annuity, pension or wages for any services in excess of $250.00 per year. That we have no interest in this claim. That she has not since the death of said husband remarried.

On this day personally came before the undersigned, a Notary Public within and for the County of Scott and State of Arkansas A.W. Self citizens of Scott County, Arkansas whom I certify to be credible persons and worthy of confidence, who, being duly sworn, state that they are each personally well acquainted with applicant Martha Farnsworth and have known her 60 years, respectively.
That she is now and has been for the past twelve months a bona fide resident of Arkansas. That to the best of our knowledge all property now owned by her is not worth exceeding $500.00, not including the value of her homestead,* or household goods. That she is not in receipt of any income, annuity, pension or wages for any services in excess of $250.00 per year. That we have no interest in this claim.
That affiant was personally well acquainted with her husband, George Washington Farnsworth in his life-time, who died about Mar. 3, 1881, and that he was also acquainted with T.P. Watson, to whom she was married and that he died about Aug. 11, 1927, and that she has not since his death remarried.

The records show that one G.W. Farnesworth, (also borne as G.W. Farnsworth and George W. Farnsworth) Co. C, 60th Georgia Inf., C.S.A., enlisted May 3, 1862 at LaFayette, Ga.
Muster roll April 30 to August 31, 1864, dated Nov. 5, 1864, (latest on file) shows him absent. Sent to hospital April 23, 1864, a Private.
His name appears as signature to an Oath of Allegiance taken at Chattanooga, Tenn., a Private. Residence: Catoosa Co., Ga. Date of administration of Oath: May 21, 1865. Complexion: fair. Hair: dark. Eyes: dark. height: 5 ft. 8 in.
(Indorsement shows: Roll of Rebel Deserters who have taken the Oath of Amnesty.)
Not found as George Washington Farnsworth. Date of capture not shown. James C. Wardlaw was Captain of the Company.

Martha Farnsworth after being duly sworn states that she is the applicant in this case for widows pension and that she is the lawful widow of George W. Farnsworth, deceased, who was a soldier in the army of the Confederate States, having inlisted at Lafayette Georgia, that she has made diligent search and inquiry for witness who served with said soldier to make proof of his service and that she is unable to locate any living witness who can make positive proof of said service of said soldier. And that she submits affidavits of citizens, well acquainted with her for more than two years, in support of the same.

It is necessary that this Questionnaire be properly filled out, sworn to, and filed in the Auditor's office in order that your name may remain on the Confederate Pension Roll. Under authority of a ruling of the State pension Board and Advisory Board, appointed by the Governor, at a meeting of said Boards on the 7th day of January, 1932.

I, Mrs. Martha Farnsworth, a resident of the County and State aforesaid, do solemnly swear that I fully and clearly understand the questions above set forth and that I have truthfully and to the best of my knowledge and ability given the answers set opposite each question.

(Of Pension Due Estate of Deceased Pensioner)
Under Authority Sec. 8192-8193-8194 of Crawford & Moses' Digest

STATE OF ARKANSAS}
County of Scott} ss.
I, V.H. Brasher, Clerk of the County Court within and for the County and State aforesaid, do hereby certify that Martha Farnsworth was a Confederate pensioner, residing in said State, that the application of the said Martha Farnsworth was originally filed in said county; that said Martha Farnsworth died on or about the 28th day of December, 1932; that the last allowance or issuance of a pension warrant to said deceased pensioner was made in December 15th, 1932, which warrant is being returned and there being no administrator of the estate of the said Martha Farnsworth; therefore, Theo Money sheriff of said county, as public administrator is entitled to receive, under the provisions of Section 8193 of Crawford & Moses' Digest, and to be disbursed by him under authority of Section 8194 of said Digest, the pro rata amount accruing from [blank] to date of death of said pensioner, subject to the apportionment of the pension fund made by the State Board of Pensioners for the present year.
