VETERAN'S APPLICATION FOR PENSION

I, Dock McCuen Griggs do solemnly swear that I served as a soldier in the army (or sailor in the navy) of the Confederate States, being a member of Co. "D" Regiment of Infantry Vols. from the State of Texas, that I was honorably discharged (paroled or released) from such service on or about the (blank) day of Feb. 1865, and did not desert the same; that I am now, and for the past twelve months have been, a bona fide resident of this State; that I do not myself, nor does my wife, nor do we both together, own property, real or personal, or both, or money or choses in action in excess of the value of $500.00 (not including the value of homestead, or household goods, owned by either or both); nor has either of us conveyed title to any property to enable me to draw a pension, and that neither I nor my wife is in receipt of any income, annuity, pension or wages for any services, the emoluments of an office, in excess of $250.00 per year; that I am incapacitated to perform manual labor in any of the ordinary avocations of life (or am totally blind), and that such incapacity (or diability) is the result of wounds received in the service, being gun shot wound in the abdoman and the result of old age. I am 77 years of age or of age, accident or disease, and that such disability is not the result of my own vicious habits still persisted in, so help me God.

WHEREAS: It appearing that Dock M. Griggs who served as a soldier in the Army of the Confederate States, in Company "D" Ridgement of Infantry Vols. from State of Texas, and has applied for State Pension.
We the undersigned citizens of Bates Scott County, Ark., namely S.H. Kersey and J.W. Blair each state that we are personally well acquainted with Dock M. Griggs and have known him for 20 years, and that he is a bona-fide resident of the State of Arkansas and has been for more than one year, having lived in said State 20 years.
That to the best of our knowledge all property owned by him is not worth exceeding $500.00 (illegible due to fold in page) Homestead and Household goods, and that he is not in receipt of any income, annuity, pension, or wages for any service in excess of $250.00 per year. That we have no interest in this claim.

I, (blank) a duly registered and practicing physician in Scott County, Arkansas do hereby certify that I am personally well acquainted with Dock McCuen Griggs of Bates, Scott Co., Arkansas, who is an applicant for a pension under the Statutes of Arkansas.
That at his request I have made an examination of his physical condition and find:
State description and character of wound: A gun shot wound in abdomen in lower part of the sternum
Physical condition and to what cause is his incapacity for manual labor attributable

That he was a Confederate soldier, belonging to Company "D" Regiment of Texas Vol. Infantry. That as such soldier he served from Dec. 1862 to Dec. 1864. That he was honorably discharged (paroled or released) from such service and did not desert the same. That we have no interest in this claim.

I, R.J. Griggs do solemnly swear that I was born on the 5 day of Sept. 1860, and that I am the widow of Dock M. Griggs, who served as a soldier in the army (or sailor in the navy) of the Confederate States, his proof of service being now on file in the Auditor's Office, at Little Rock, he having been allowed a pension under Act of the General Assembly, approved March 11, 1901, and subsequent amendatory Acts, while a resident of Scott County, Arkansas; that I am now, and for the past (blank) years have been a bona fide resident of this State; that I do not own property, real or personal, or both, or money or choses in action, in excess of the value of $500.00 (not including the value of homestead,* or household goods); nor have I conveyed title to any property to enable me to draw a pension, and that I am not in receipt of any income, annuity, pension or wages for any services, the emoluments of any office, in excess of $250.00 per year; that my husband died on the 14 day of November 1933. That I am at the present time a widow and in indigent circumstances.

That she is not in receipt of any income, annuity, pension or wages for any services in excess of $250.00 per year. That I have no interest in this claim. I, V.H. Brasher, Clerk of the County Court within and for the County and State aforesaid, do hereby certify that Dock M. Griggs was a Confederate pensioner, residing in said State, that the application of the said Dock M. Griggs was originally filed in said County; that said Dock M. Griggs died on or about the 14th day of November 1933; that the last allowance or issuance of a pension warrant to said deceased pensioner was made in October 14th, 1933, and there being no administrator of the estate of said Dock M. Griggs; therefore, Theo Money sheriff of said county, as public administrator is entitled to receive, under the provisions of Section 8193 of Crawford & Moses' Digest, and to be disbursed by him under authority of Section 8194 of said Digest, the pro rata amount accruing from October 14th, 1933, to date of death of said pensioner, subject to the apportionment of the pension fund made by the State Board of Pensioners for the present year.
