This tintype was my g-g-g grandmothers. She was Nancy Ann James, born c1841 in Saline Co., AR to Claiborn and Jane C. (Boiles) James. Nancy married John Chaple Bates about 1872 in Scott Co., AR. Their two children were born in the Dutch Creek area of Scott Co. John and Nancy moved to Silver, Montgomery Co., AR in 1880. Nancy's family lived in Saline and Scott Counties. I believe these men are from the James family. I was told by many family members that they were Jesse & Frank James (the outlaws) but have found that not to be true.
