JAMES "HENRY" LOVETT

Pictured above is James "Henry" Lovett, son of Ruben Lovett and his second wife, Susan Hicklin. Henry was born in October 1872, the youngest of Ruben & Susan’s 4 children. His siblings were Joseph, born in 1863; William T., born in 1866; and Nancy Ellen, born on Dec. 20, 1869. Henry was around 4 years old when his father died in Scott County. His mother and two older brothers died before Henry was a teenager. He went to live with Alfred Oscar "Bud" Lovett, his half brother who raised him as his own son.

Henry’s father, Ruben was born about 1822 and was married to Amanda before he was married to Henry’s mother. Amanda was born in 1824. Ruben and Amanda (last name unknown) are listed on the 1850 Scott County census and had 4 children: Sarah Jean, born Jan 10, 1844; Margaret Ann, born August 18, 1846; Alfred Oscar "Bud", born November 22, 1850, and Mary Elizabeth, born August 22, 1851.

Henry married Florence Burt on September 23, 1888 in Scott County. He was 16, she was 14. They had 6 children. Henry died in 1903 at age 32. His children with Florence are: Cordia "Corty", born June 1890; William "Will" H., born September 29, 1892; Clara, born December 1896; Lester Alfred "Cudge", born January 1898; Missie Mae, born February 1900; and Garthena, born about 1903. I descend from Bud Lovett.
