APPLICATION FOR CONFEDERATE PENSION

To the Honorable County Court of Scott County:
The undersigned applicant for pension under an act of the General Assembly of the State of Arkansas, approved April 1, 1891, and amendments thereto, being duly sworn according to law, states that he is the identical person who enlisted and was enrolled on the (blank) day of (blank) 1861 in Henrico Troop in Company "A" of the 10th Regiment of Virginia Cav'y. Vols. commanded by Capts. Magrude and G.W. Hopkins in the services of the Confederate States of America, or the State of Arkansas. That while a member of the said Company and Regiment in said service, and in the line of duty at Fredericksburg in the State of Va. on or about the 2nd or 3rd day of May, 1863 he received a (illegible) sabre wound in the top of head.
That by reason of said wound he lost his health and has never since been stout and able to perform manual labor and is now in indigent circumstances, without means of support, and is partially incapacitated for manual labor. That he is a bona fide citizen of the State of Arkansas, and has resided in said State for more than twelve months immediately preceeding this application. That he is not receiving aid from the State of Arkansas, from the United States nor from any other State, for injuries received in the war between the States under any Statute providing for the relief of the maimed and blind soldiers of the States.

Duncan, Clerk, sitting as a Pension Board for Scott County, do certify that we have examined the application of the within named Thomas L. Naake for pension, under act of the General Assembly of the State of Arkansas, as approved April 1, 1891, and the proof in support of same, and find that said applicant is a wounded Confederate soldier, is in indigent circumstances and partially incapacitated for manual labor, and that his claim is just, and that he should be allowed a pension and we hereby allow the sum of twenty five Dollars per annum.

ADDITIONAL AND SECOND
APPLICATION FOR PENSION

To the Honorable County Court of Scott County.
The undersigned applicant for a pension under the act of the General Assembly of the State of Arkansas, approved April 1st, 1891, and amendments thereto, being duly sworn, states that his name is Thomas L. Naake, his age is 47 years, that he has resided in this State for 24 years, that he is not receiving aid from the State of Arkansas, or any other state or government for injuries received in the war between the States. That he enlisted at Petersburg, Va. on or about the 1st day of Aug. 1861 in Company A, commanded by McGruder in the 10 Regiment of Va. Cavalry commanded by J.L. Davis in Confederate State Service. Afterwards re-enlisted in Company -- in the -- Regiment of --- in same service. That while a member of said Company in said service and while in the line of duty at Battle of Fredericksburg in the State of Va., on or about the 3rd day of May 1863, he received a sabre wound on the head, which renders me unable to ride or work alone, which causes me physically disabled to work.
My means of support are as follows: How you make living. I am trying to farm this year for the first time in 12 or 14 years. Tried carrying the mail and had to give it up on account of disability caused by the wound.

On this day personally came before the undersigned a Clerk Circuit Court within and for the County of Scott and State of Arkansas J.J. Overton and J.L. Walton citizens of Boles, Scott Co., Ark. whom I certify to be credible persons and worthy of confidence, who being duly sworn state that they are each, personally, well acquainted with the applicant Thomas L. Naake and have known him about ten years. That the material facts set forth in his application for pension are true. That he was a Confederate soldier. Belonged to Company A of 10 Regiment of Va. Cavalry. That he was wounded in said service at Fredericksburg Battle Va. on or about May 3, 1863. That this information we derive from the following sources
From long and intimate acquaintance with soldier and from conversations with him on the subject and from examination of the wound and believing his statements to be true.
That he is partially incapacitated for manual labor, that we have no interest in this claim.

Naake and have known him 7 years.
That the material facts set forth in his application for pension are true. That he was a Confederate soldier. Belonged to Company "A" 10th Regiment of Va. Cav'y. Vols. That he was wounded in said service at Fredericksburg, Va.
That this information we derive from the following sources
From long acquaintance with soldier and having lived a near neighbor to soldier a great part of the time and often hearing
That he is partially incapacitated for manual labor, and that we have no interest in this claim.

Naake and have known him 10 years.
That the material facts set forth in his application for pension are true. That he was a Confederate soldier. Belonged to Company "A" 10th Regiment of Va. Cav'y. Vols.
That this information I derive from the following sources:
From long and intimate acquaintance with the soldier and having lived a near neighbor to him and often hearing him speak of his service and his wound received in the head and knowing him to be unable to perform manual labor.
That he is partially incapacitated for manual labor, and that we have no interest in this claim.

Naake, an applicant for pension under the Statutes of Arkansas, and that he is incapacitated for manual labor by reason of a sabre wound in the top of head, and by reason of said wound he is in indigent circumstance.

I, Dr. W.L. Tolleson a duly registered and practicing physician in Scott County, Arkansas, do hereby certify that I am personally well acquainted with Thomas L. Naake of Gibson, Scott Co., Arkansas, who is an applicant for a pension under the Statutes of Arkansas.
That at his request I have made an examination of his wound and find:
State description and character of would Gun shot wound in of arm, a scar on head from saber and so Double Invinnial(?) Rupture from which he sufers greatly.
Physical condition and to what cause is his incapacity for manual labor attributable
his physical condition from the above stated.

Naake is the identical person named in the original application which is on file in the office of Auditor of State, and that the applicant is alive, but still disabled, and in indigent circumstances, and a citizen of this State, and entitled to the benefits of the laws under which said pension was granted.

WIDOW'S APPLICATION FOR PENSION

I, Mrs. J.A. Naake of Mena, Ark., do solemnly swear that I am the widow of Thomas L. Naake, dec'd., who served as a soldier in the army of the Confederate States, being a member of Company "A" of the 10th Regiment of Cavalry Vols. from the State of Virginia; that he was honorably discharged (paroled or released) from such service as well as I remember at the close of the war on or about the spring of the year 1865 and did not desert the same; that I am now, and for the past twelve months have been, a bona fide resident of this State; that I do not own property, real or personal, or both, or money or choses in action in excess of the value of $400.00 (exclusive of household goods and wearing apparel), nor have I conveyed title to any property to enable me to draw a pension, and that I am not in receipt of any income, annuity, pension or wages for any services, the emoluments of an office, in excess of $150.00 per year; that my said husband died since the close of the war on April 21, 1896, and that I have not since re-married, so help me God.

On this day personally came before the undersigned, a Justice of the Peace within and for the County of Scott and State of Arkansas, I.F. Pinnick and W.L. Tolleson, citizens of Boles, Scott Co., Ark. whom I certify to be creditable persons and worthy of confidence, who being duly sworn, state that they are each, personally, well acquainted with applicant Mrs. J.A. Naake widow of Thomas L. Naake, deceased, and have known him (sic) for (ink smeared, illegible) years prior to his death, and have known his widow for 4 years.
That he was a Confederate soldier. Belonging to Company "A" 10th Regiment of Va. Cav. Vols. That as such soldier he served from Spring of 1862 to the close of the war in spring 1865. That he was honorably discharged (paroled or released) from such service and did not desert the same. That he was for more than 12 months prior to his death and that his said widow Mrs. J.A. Naake is now and has been for the past twelve months a bona fide resident of Arkansas. That her said husband was incapacitated for manual labor by reason general debility and feeble heath and that such incapacity (or disability) was not the result of his own vicious habits still persisted in. That to the best of our knowledge, all property owned by him and now by his wife, together, is not worth exceeding $400 (exclusive of household goods and wearing apparel.) That she the said Mrs. T.L. Naake is not (several words obscured by crease in paper) of any income, annuity, pension or wages for any services, or the emoluments of an office, in excess of $150 per year. That we have no interest in this claim.
