JOHN ROBERT HART

Word was received here of the death of John Robert Hart. He was born January 31, 1897 in Waldron,Arkansas. He passed away Friday, July 2, 2004, Muskogee, Oklahoma at the age of 107. Funeral services were held at the United Pentecostal Church in Okemah, Oklahoma on Tuesday, July 6 at 2:00 p.m. with Bro. Bill Shirel officiating. Interment was at Likowski Cemetery in Pharoah, Oklahoma with the funeral directed by Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Okemah, Oklahoma. Uncle John was born in Waldron, Arkansas. His mother died at his birth. He said an aunt took care of him at the beginning. He weighed only two and a half pounds at birth but was destined to live in three centuries. He was a member of the United Pentecostal Church and the American Legion. He served his country with the United States Army during World War I. He left Waldron at age 13 to go to Okemah to work on a farm. In fact he proved to be a man of the soil until retirement. Even growing large patches of vegetables after he moved into town. He came back to Waldron, for a time where he married his first wife. They had a son, J.C. Hart. That marriage failed. He and his young son headed back to Oklahoma and the farm. Working on the same farm was a family by the name of Martin. They had a daughter, Myrtle, who also worked there. Like the Biblical story of Ruth and Boaz, John wanted to make her work a little easier and worked harder to do this. As they became better acquainted they found they had other things in common. Each had a previous marriage and each had a child. On March 16, 1966, John, 49, and Myrtle, age 23, were married. Besides his parents, Thomas Allen Hart and Rose M. (Dipboye) Hart and several siblings, John is preceded in death by two sons and one daughter. He is survived by his wife, Myrtle of 57 years, seven sons and four daughters, 28 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
