CLAUDETTE TAYLOR

Claudette Taylor of Waldron, Arkansas went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 23rd at the Waldron Nursing Center in Waldron, Arkansas. She was born on August 10th 1938 in Boles, Arkansas to Flo and Claud Taylor. Claudette was 79 years old and an active member of many churches and clubs in Scott County. After the tragic death of her father at the tender age of 19 she became a second mother figure to her two younger sisters. Claudette continued to fill her love of healing and love of learning through helping others. She pursued nursing at Sparks School of Nursing in Fort Smith and later continued her education at Texas Woman’s University in Denton, Texas. After graduating and passing her nursing exams, she became a Registered Nurse (RN) and served as the Director of Nursing at the Waldron Nursing Center. She later became on oncology nurse for the cancer ward at Sparks Hospital and shared her love of healing by taking the most challenging cases. Claudette’s diagnostics skills and compassion were unsurpassed. Many times, her healing came through ensuring her patients had the special heartfelt comforts like music, beauty and favorite foods. She inspired many young women in Scott County to pursue their dreams of having professional careers outside of the home. Her life was dedicated to building relationships and mentoring young women in her community, both professionally and personally. While continuing to raise her family and be active in the community, Claudette enjoyed life-time-learning, spending time with her family, especially her Mother, and playing cards and golf with her friends. One of Claudette’s special loves was working with young children. She was able to do this through teaching Sunday School to 3 and 4 year olds, running Vacation Bible Schools and as a nurse / chaperone for thousands of band events, performances, band competitions and school band trips. Her love of music was greatly fulfilled by being the soulmate and life partner to her husband, Gaylon Taylor, the band director, chorale leader and music teacher in their community. A special source of pride came from hearing how she and her husband impacted other’s lives and helped them attain their dreams. Her love of golf, fashion, living life to the fullest and spending time with her lady friends was evident every day she spent on this earth. She instilled the ability to achieve anything in her daughters and felt a special sense of pride in their personal accomplishments. Always being willing to put others first was evident by the after-hours home visits to those in need, sitting with dying community members and being the first to step in when action and progress was needed. She was the level- headed person others looked to when things needed to get done and provided clear guidance and organizational skills to make things happen. The Scott County community, her friends and loving family will remember her as a special person who had healing hands, an overflowing heart full of love and compassion. A true fiery southern lady with a willingness to freely give all she had to others in need. Claudette always made time to visit her daughters whether that was in another city, state or country. She was proceeded in death by her father Claud Taylor, mother Flo Taylor, and brother Val Jean Taylor. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Gaylon Taylor, daughters; Krista Taylor Colquitt and Kara Taylor, brothers; Don Taylor, Van Taylor, sisters Cathy Taylor Davenport, Diane Taylor Christensen and granddaughter Adrianne Ella Colquitt.
