I am looking for information on the GARRETT line living in Scott County. My father is George W. GARRETT, Jr.
who still has many relatives in and around the Waldron area. His father was George W. GARRETT, Sr. who
played football in the 20s for Waldron High School and my father's mother was Zenobie SHORES who went by Nobie.
I have been able to find a few records on my grandmother including an early Waldron paper but I can not find much
on the Garrett line. George W. GARRETT, Sr.'s parents were John Payne GARRETT and Effie "Lilly" MCCORMACK. I have
found a few records on Effie living in Little Texas, AR but again none for John GARRETT. I cannot even find a record
of my father being born in Louisiana in 1937. If anyone has any information on the elusive GARRETTs please let me
know. My father says that the GARRETTs tended to move around a bit but I can't seem to find anything. I am listing
below the dates of the people I have mentioned. Thank you.
John Payne GARRETT (1886-1960) buried at Parks Cemetery at Nola
Effie (Lillie) MCCORMACK (1889-1956) buried at Parks Cemetery at Nola
George W. GARRETT, Sr. (1910-1966) buried at Parks Cemetery at Nola
Zenobie Ann SHORES (1910-1991) buried at Hawkins Cemetery

I have been and continue to research the NANCE family in Scott County. Jesse Pinctney NANCE
left Union/Anson Co., NC for Georgia after the Civil War, leaving his 2 children by his first
wife, Nancy SPEARS, who had died, with his father John A. NANCE, son of Wyatt NANCE, son of
Robert NANCE, my Revolutionary War Patriot. Jesse married a Mary Caroline McCOY before 1868,
in Georgia, I think and they then went to Scott County where they both died. Jesse had one
son by Mary Caroline, John Benjamin NANCE, born March 3, 1868, in Scott Co.

I have been searching for B.J. STEWART (Bartheney Jane) & J.B. (Bass) STEWART. They lived
in Tomlinson Township in Scott Co., AR. She is listed on the 1880 census in Scott Co. along
with her children and it is noted that she is “widowed” although Bass STEWART passed away
in 1913 in Upshur Co., TX. I also noted that B.J. STEWART is listed on the 1880 Agricultural
Census in Tomlinson Township. B.J. STEWART supposedly passed away in 1886. I do not know
where she is buried. Bartheney Jane STEWART was my great, great grandmother. Her daughter,
Willie Alice, married William Wesley PAYTON who came to Scott Co., AR from Illinois & was
in the lumber business. He moved on to Texas about 1900 and eventually settled in Bienville
Parish, Louisiana which is the part of Louisiana where I grew up & where most of my family
still resides. My Grandmother, Ida Drusilla PAYTON, was born in Fort Smith. The children of
B.J. & Bass STEWART were: James E., Willie Alice, Mary Hattie, Virginia Lee, Maude, Robert,
Lou C., Dora, M. Jenna, & John Madison. Bass STEWART and Bartheney Jane DINWIDDIE got married
in Carroll Co., Tennessee and migrated to Arkansas after the Civil War. He had been a
Confederate soldier & family lore has it that he may have ridden with Quantrill’s Raiders
after the war. Family lore also has it that B.J. was buried in the Oklahoma Territory although
this would seem to me to be rather unlikely as she lived with her children in Scott Co. & they
apparently farmed until shortly before her death. As I noted earlier she was listed as
“widowed” & “head of household” on the 1880 US Census in Tomlinson Township. My mother was
eagerly seeking more information about “Grandma STEWART” & the DINWIDDIES of TN before she
died in 1999. Can anyone help with more information about this family or the burial site of
Bartheney Jane STEWART?

I am looking for any information on an Anna PINION who is listed in the 1860 Sebastian Co., Mountain Township
census records. (This area was taken from Scott Co. in 1851 and returned to Scott Co. in 1861.) Anna is listed among
the JONES family households and I am wondering if she was related to them. She supposedly was born in SC and was 75
in 1860. Am wondering if she was David J. JONES' mother. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you!

I am searching for any information on the David J. ALLEN family. David ALLEN married Jane Netta
(aka Jane or Jennie) JONES in 1869 in MS, moved to TX and to AR so that they appear in the 1880
Scott County census. Their names are as follows:
David ALLEN, b. 1846, NC
Jane ALLEN, b. 1847, MS
Benjamine ALLEN, age 11, b. 1869, MS
Franklin ALLEN, age 8, b. 1872, MS
Henry R. ALLEN, age 7, b. 1873, MS
Mary L. ALLEN, age 5, b. 1875, MS
Emily J. ALLEN, age 3, b. 1878, TX
Nancy ALLEN, age 2, b. 1879, TX
It is believed they remained in Scott County for about 20 years before moving into Indian Territory
in Oklahoma where they appear in Coal County OK in 1906. Henry R. ALLEN appears in 1900 census of the
Choctaw Nation, Township 3, married to Alice O. HARRIS who was born 1881 in Texas. Franklin ALLEN married
Pearl MORGAN, who was born 1880 and later to Lona P. (lastname unknown) who was born in 1881 in Arkansas.
Neither Benjamin ALLEN, Mary L. ALLEN, Emily J. ALLEN or Nancy ALLEN may have married in Arkansas and their
descendents may remain in or near Scott County.
