KARL WAYNE SHACKELFORD

Pictured above is my father-in-law, Karl Wayne Shackelford. He was born 5 Aug 1923 at Greenwood, Sebastian County, Arkansas, son of James Madison & Ethel Sarah (Moore) Shackelford. The family was displaced from the Cornish community when Fort Chaffee was created; they moved to Abbott, Scott County, Arkansas. Karl was about 17 years old at that time and lived there the rest of his life. Karl served in the U.S. Army during World War II and on 16 Aug 1946 he married Hazel Lorene Looper at Fort Smith. Karl Shackelford died 10 Aug 1997 and his obituary reads:

Karl Wayne Shackelford, 74, of Abbott died August 10, 1997 in a Greenwood nursing home. He was retired from Fort Chaffee, a member of Abbott Baptist Church in Abbott and was an Army veteran of World War II. Funeral was held August 12, 1997 in Abbott with burial at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Abbott under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home in Greenwood. He is survived by his wife, Hazel; three sons, Ronnie and Mark, both of Greenwood, and Jerry of Ardmore, Okla; a sister, Frances Casey of Abbott; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren..."
