CIVIL WAR PENSION RECORD OF ELIAS WILLIAMS
APPLICATION FOR PENSION

State of Arkansas}
County of Logan}
I, Elias Williams do solemnly swear that I [illegible] member of Co. "D" of the 44th Regiment of Infty. Vols. from the State of Miss. first known as Blythe's Bat. of Miss. Infty. Vols; that I was honorably discharged (paroled or released) from such service on or about the first day of December 1863 and did not desert the same; that I am now, and for the past twelve months have been, a bona fide resident of this State; that I do not myself, nor does my wife, nor do we both together, own property, real or personal, or both, or money or choses in action in excess of the value of $400.00 (exclusive of household goods and wearing apparel), nor has either of us conveyed title to any property to enable me to draw a pension, and that neither I nor my wife is in receipt of any income, annuity, pension or wages for any services, the emoluments of an office, in excess of $150.00 per year; that I am incapacitated to perform manual labor in any of the ordinary avocations of life and that such incapacity (or disability) is the result not of wounds received in the service, but advanced age and debilitated physical condition, and very poor health, my age bein now 66 years, and that such disability is not the result of my own vicious habits still persisted in, so help me God.

We, the undersigned, sitting as a Pension Board for Scott County, do certify that we have examined the application of the within named Elias Williams for pension, under Act of the General Assembly of the State of Arkansas, as approved March 11, 1901, and the proof in support of same, and find that said applicant is a diseased & disabled Confederate soldier, is in indigent circumstances, and partially incapacitated for manual labor, and that his cliam is just, and that he should be allowed $25.00 pension.

On this day personally came before the undersigned, a Circuit Clerk within and for the County of Scott and State of Arkansas, John Williams, citizen of Poteau, Ark. whom I certify to be a creditable person and worthy of confidence, who being duly sworn, states that he is personally, well acquainted with applicant for pension Elias Williams and has known him all his life being an older brother.
That he was a Confederate soldier. Belonging to Company "D" 44th Regiment Miss. Infty. Vols. which at first was designated as Blythe's Bat. of Miss. Infty. Vols. That as such soldier he served from about June 1861 to about the spring or summer of 1863 when he was sick & came home on furlough and don't think he rejoined the army. That he was honorably discharged (paroled or released) from such service, and did not desert the same. That he is now and has been for the past twelve months a bona fide resident of Arkansas. That he is incapacitated for manual labor by reason of advanced age and very feeble health and that such incapacity (or disability) is not the result of his own vicious habits still persisted in. That to the best of my knowledge, all property now owned by him and his wife, together, is not worth exceeding $400 (exclusive of household goods and wearing apparel). That neither he nor his wife is in receipt of any income, annuity, pension or wages for any services, or the emoluments of an office, in excess of $150 per year. That I have no interest in this claim except my relation to him as a brother.

On this day personally came before the undersigned, a Justice of the Peace within and for the County of Logan and State of Ark. [blank] citizens of near Belva, Ark., whom I certify to be creditable persons and worthy of confidence, who being duly sworn, state that they are each, personally, well acquainted with applicant for pension Elias Williams, and have known him 4 years and 1 year, respectively. That he is now and has been for the past twelve months a bona fide resident of Arkansas. That he is incapacitated for manual labor by reason of advanced age and poor health and that such incapacity (or disability) is not the result of his own vicious habits still persisted in. That to the best of my knowledge, all property now owned by him and his wife, together, is not worth exceeding $400 (exclusive of household goods and wearing apparel). That neither he nor his wife is in receipt of any income, annuity, pension or wages for any services, or the emoluments of an office, in excess of $150 per year. That we have no interest in this claim.

I, W.W. Honrsby a duly registered and practicing physician in Scott County, Arkansas, do hereby certify that I am personally [illegible] Elias Williams of Belva, Arkansas, who is an applicant for a pension under the Statutes of Arkansas.
That at his request I have made an examination of his physical condition and find:
1st General Nervous Prostration.
2nd Supposed cancerous infiltration.
Physical condition and to what cause is his incapacity for manual labor attributable:
Weak and anaemic, also greatly emaciated. Causes viz. age, general cancerous infiltration, and that said disability is not the result of his own vicious habits still persisted in.
Extent of disability is such that he is unable by his labor, manual, to make a support for himself and family.

I, Susan E. Williams, do solemnly swear that I [illegible] Elias Williams [illegible] of the Gneral Assembly, approved March 11, 1901; that I am now, and for the past twelve months have been a bona fide resident of this State; that I do not own property, real or personal, or both, or money or choses in action, in excess of the value of $400.00 (exclusive of household goods and wearing apparel), nor have I conveyed title to any property to enable me to draw a pension, and that I am not in receipt of any income, annuity, pension or wages for any services, the emoluments of an office, in excess of $150.00 per year; that my said husband died on the 16th day of July 1904 near Belva in Scott County, Arkansas and I hereby ask that the evidence submitted by my said deceased husband's claim before his death and now on file with the State Pension Board at Little Rock, Ark., as to my deceased husband's service in the army &c be now considered in determining the justness of my claim as his widow and that I have not since remarried, so help me God.

Williams for pension under Act of General Assembly of the State of Arkansas, as approved March 11, 1901; and the proof in support of same, and find that said applicant is the widow of a Confederate soldier, is in indigent circumstances, and that her claim is just, and that she should be allowed $50.00 pension.

On this day personally came before the undersigned, a Justice of the Peace within and for the County of Logan and State of Arkansas, C.A. Davis and J.F. Davis [illegible] acquainted with applicant's husband Elias Williams and knew him prior to his death.
That he is now dead and that his widow Mrs. Susan E. Williams has been for the past twelve months a bona fide resident of Arkansas. That to the best of our knowledge, all property now owned by his widow is not worth exceeding $400 (exclusive of household goods and wearing apparel). That his widow is not in receipt of any income, annuity, pension or wages for any [illegible] of an office, in excess of $150 per year, and that she has not since remarried. That we have no interest in this claim.
