| Born in Tipper Co., Miss., December 27, 1845. Father was John McCalister, born in North Carolina, and his grandfather came from Ireland. His mother was Elizabeth McGraw, who was from North Carolina, and his grandfather came from Ireland. His father came to Arkansas in 1846. Mr. McCallster entered the army in 1861 and was in the battles of Shiloh, Perrysville, Ky., Murfreesboro, Chicamaugus, Missionary Ridge, New Hope, Kenesaw Mountain, Atlanta and finally surrendered at Camden, Ark. Went to Texas in 1872. Married Mollie Brown in 1866. children are: J.C., W.D., Florence, Fannie, Ada, Pearl, Fava, who are living and William. Alice, Maggie and George, who have departed this life. Came back to Arkansas from Texas in 1879. Has been quite prominent in politics and school government. |
