From Ancestry Tree
James H. Bachelor was born on 13 Oct 1853 in Savannah, Hardin Co., TN. He died on 9 Dec 1934 in Ft. Smith, AR. Enumerated with his parents in 1860 and 1880 census, so must have married after 1880. The 1890 biography of Dr. Wilson R. Bachelor names JHB as "Dr. James H. Bachelor of Central City." In 1894, Polk's ARK. STATE GAZETEER lists him as a constable in Pauline. Dr. Wilson R. Bachelor's 5 Sept. 1899 letter to Melissa Robertson says of him, "Dr. Jim Bachelor lives near Fort Smith." On these sources, see file of Wilson Richard Bachelor.

In an 8 Apr. 1996 letter, William Russell (cited in file of Dr. Wilson R. Bachelor) tells me that he has the obituary of JHB from the 13 Dec. 1934 Ft. Smith newspaper. The obituary states that JHB was 81 years old, survived by children Pauline Knox of Ft. Smith, Henrietta Phillips, Laura Pierce, both of Caruthers, CA, and a son Yeager of Terrero, NM. The article stated that JHB practiced medicine at Central and Lavaca, AR, and that he died at the home of his daughter Pauline after an illness of 3 years.

My list of JHB's children is from his obituary and the 1900 census. In a 21 Apr. 1996 letter to me, Bill Russell tells me that the census enumerates children Clint, Pauline, Henrietta, and Laura, with the dates of birth I have given. This makes me wonder whether the Clint Bachelor of the census and the Yeager Bachelor of the obituary are the same person. Bill Russell is my source for JHB's spouse. Parents: Wilson Richard Bachelor and Sarah H. Tankersley.
Spouse: Augusta Eubanks.
Children were: Clint Bachelor, Pauline Bachelor, Henrietta Bachelor, Laura Bachelor, Yeager Bachelor
