Dr. George Erving Bomford
1820-1864



Dr. George Erving Bomford was born Mar 31, 1820 in Washington, DC to Col. George Bomford and Clarissa Clara Baldwin Bomford. He attended medical school at Harvard University reading medicine under Dr. Wilson, and attended lectures at Boston and Philadelphia, and received his diploma.

He practiced several years in Washington, then moved to Fort Smith in 1848, and immediately began practicing in that town. He married Martha Arkansas Dillard in 1851. He was post surgeon of Fort Smith before and during the war, and was a Royal Arch Mason, a Democrat, and a member of the Episcopal Church. He has three sons, George D. (of St. Louis, Mo.), Erving, (a druggist of Fort Smith), Henry (a plumber of Fort Smith), and 3 daughters. He died in 1864 at age 44 at Fort Smith and is buried in Oak Cemetery.
