The parental grandparents were Hugh White Coffman b in 1821 in Tannessee and Saloma Jane Seaborn b. 1826 both in Tennessee. They were living in Crooked Creek in Carroll County Arkansas by 1856. The materniel grandparents were John M. Roark b 1816 in Tennessee and Phebe Mainard 1819 also in Tennessee. The Roark's located in Harrison in Carroll Co., Arkansas abt. 1865. Joseph Seaborn Coffman was born on March 4, 1879 at Crooked Creek in Harrison, Boone County, Arkansas. being the 9th child born to John Henry and Sarah Louise Roark. Oct 12, 1902 he married Mattie Mae White, daughter of John D. White born in 1837 in Missouri and Nancy A. Colemann born 1845 in North Carolina who moved to Sebastian County, Arkansas before 1870. Joseph Seaborn "Doc" Coffman graduated with a Doctor of Medicine degree from the College of Physicians and Surgeons in Little Rock, Arkansas on April 30, 1907. His classes started when the school opened in 1906, and he graduated with that initial class of eleven graduates. The ceremony was held April 30, 1907.
