Dr. Hugh Johnson
1879-1951

Dr. Hugh Johnson born c1879, was the son of Dr. J.E. Johnson Sr. and Mary Luanna (Ryan) Johnson. He was the brother of Dr. J.E. Johnson Jr. of Fort Smith, Arkansas.

Dr. Hugh Johnson graduated from the University of Arkansas School of Medicine in 1906. He began his practice in Fort Smith after he graduated, alongside his uncle: Dr. Dick Ryan of Fort Smith, Arkansas. Later, Dr. Hugh Johnson moved to Barling, Arkansas and then went(for a short period), to Bonanza, Arkansas, but ended up back in Fort Smith.

Dr. Johnson married Ruth Redman 26 Mar 1915. They had 2 daughters Virginia and Edna Jean

He was past president of the Sebastian County Medical Society(1941); a member of the executive staff at St. Edwards Mercy Hospital; Sebastian County Corner for over 40 years; a Masonic Mason; a member of the Kiwanis Club; a member of the Board of Directors of the Salvation Army of Fort Smith, Arkansas; a deacon of the 1st Baptist Church of Fort Smith, Arkansas.
