Miss Sarah Clark's Cemetery
Miss Sarah's. Private cemetery owned by Miss Clark was one acre. Miss Clark sold to the City and the cemetery name was gone and integrated into Oak Grove Cemetery, later Oak Cemetery.
Miss Sarah was b. 1807 and died 1887. See her photo & story at the bottom of this page.

The burials I have found are all from the St. John's Burial records. There are probably others buried there.

From Chuck Girard - "Miss Sarah Clark's Cemetery might be referring to A particular area of Oak Cemetery. I think Sarah Clark was the lady that had her tombstone made and kept it in her backyard long before her death. It is inscribed, "Miss Sarah Clark".When asked what she do if she got married, she replied, "I was born a Miss and I will die a Miss". She is buried in one of the older areas of Oak Cemetery.

From Charles Raney - "Before Oak Cemetery, there was a one acre piece of land owned by Miss Sarah Clark, purchased around 1850. When John Rogers directed the removal of people buried in the cemetery on Catholic Ave, now Grand Ave, they needed a home so City bought the one acre from Miss Clark and other land around her cemetery. It became Oak Grove Cemetery. Should also be noted that City Ordinance at that time precluded cemeteries in City limits. Once Sarah’s one acre was absorbed by the City. In later years more land was added to make Oak Cemetery what it is today. The Grove was dropped and now just Oak Cemetery.
Sarah Clark's acre is where she and family are buried. Miss Sarah lived on 6th near the school. Kids walking to school would peak through the fence to see Miss Sarah’s stone in the back yard. Her stone laid in the back yard for 20 years before she died."
