Joseph Lewis Family

Joseph Lewis is my g-g-g Grandfather, his daughter Lucinda born in Tennessee in abt. 1827, married George W. Carter sometimes before 1847 either in Tennessee or Arkansas.

In the 1850 Arkansas Census, Boon TWP, Scott County, page 156b. George W. & Lucinda were living next door to Joseph and Ruena Lewis. George bought land in 1843, 1857, and 1859 in Scott and Sebastian Counties.

Their son Thomas Franklin Carter is my great Grandfather, his daughter Eula Lee Carter married Jesse. J. Follis. Their son J. T. Follis is my father.

Susan Swiney age 65 yrs., born in Tennessee was with Joseph and Ruena Lewis in the 1860 Arkansas Census, Washburn TWP, Sebastain County, page 1079. I believe Susan Swiney is Ruena Lewis's mother, she would be my g-g-g-g Grandmother.

George W. & Lucinda Lewis Carter had six children:
Ruena born about 1847 in Boon TWP, Scott County,
Joseph born October 1848 born in Boon TWP, Scott County,
Mary born about 1851 in Washburn TWP, Sebastain County, which was a part of Scott County before 1851,
Rachel Sarah Carter born about 1853 in Washburn TWP, Sebastian County,
Thomas born December 1858 in Washburn TWP, Sebastian County, and
Rebecca J. born March 1863 in Texas.

Lucinda Lewis Carter was living in Washburn TWP, P. O. Black Jack, Sebastian County in the 1870 Census with her children, Joseph L., Rachel S., Thomas, and Rebecca J.
James S. Lewis 29 yrs., born in Tennesse was living six families away on the same Census page with his wife Sarah A. 20 yrs., born Ala., James W. 4 yrs., born in Texas, and John Thos. 2 yrs. born in Arkansas.

Reuna Swiney Lewis born November 9, 1808, died May 31, 1897, is buried in the Dawson Cemetery, Sebastian County, AR. with her daughter Rachal Sousanna Lewis Crosby, widow of W. M. Crosby. R. S. Crosby born June 21, 1846 in Tennesse, died unknown, Dawson Cemetery, Sebastian County.
