Andrew Jackson Caperton was born February 1, 1892 near Bloomer, Sebastian Co., Ar. to William Thomas & Martha Matilda "Mattie" Carter Caperton. He married Vera Starnes in Sebastian Co., Ar. The marriage license date was September 12, 1917.

Andrew registered for the military draft June 5, 1917 at Cornish, Sebastian Co. Ar. More can be found about his service at the bottom of the page.

Andrew passed away February 15, 1950 at Greenwood, Sebastian Co., Ar. His burial was in Cross Cemetery at Greenwood.

Andrew Jackson Caperton was born to Mattie Matilda Carter and William Thomas Caperton of Sebastian County, Arkansas. He was the husband of Vera Starnes.

Andrew and Vera married September 12, 1917 in Greenwood, Arkansas. In 1920 Vera and Andrew resided in Pocola, LeFlore County, Oklahoma. By 1930 they returned to Greenwood where they settled and made their home. Eight children were born from their marriage: Alene, Alfred Lee, Helen Bernice, Betty Joe, Bobby Jack, Floyd Dean, Willis Charles Caperton, and an infant son who died at birth.

Andrew Jackson served his country in the U.S. Army as a Private in the 28th Company 165th Spot Brigade at Camp Travis, Texas. He was discharged December 17th, 1918. He was also a skilled rock mason and worked for the WPA building bridges, school bus stops, and other structures serving the community. He farmed and was an avid fox hunter.

Andrew died in 1950 leaving Vera a widow until her death in 1981. Andrew Jackson Caperton is buried at Cross Cemetery with Vera and family.

Funeral services will be conduced Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Greenwood for Andrew Jackson Caperton with the pastor, Rev. Geo. H. Hink, officiating.

Mr. Caperton, 58 year old retired farmer and life-long resident of Sebastian County, died Wednesday morning at 8:30 at his home on Highway 71, following a long illness. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife Vera; three sons, Alford of Wichita Kansas, Bobby Jack and Floyd Dean of the home; three daughters, Mrs. Victor Angeletti of Fort Smith, Mrs. David McCorkle and Mrs. Roscoe Sadler, Jr., both of Greenwood; one sister, Ms. Olive Cumbie of Little Rock; three brothers, Charlie and Alvin of Brea, California, and Tom Caperton of Little Rock; and eight grandchildren.

Burial will be at the Cross Cemetery with the McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood in charge of the arrangements.
