William Joseph Been
1927-2013


William Joseph "Billy Joe" Been was born April 20, 1927 in Delaware, Logan Co., Ar. to James Harlen Sr. & Lillie Beatrice Parker Been. He married Anneliese Miklejewski who was born in Poesigk Sach, Federal Republic of Germany. A marriage record has not been found. They share a cemetery head stone.

Billy Joe registered for the military draft December 28, 1942 at Sebastian Co., ar. He was a student in high school at that time. He enlisted and served in the US Navy according to his obituary and his grave marker. His rank was QNSM... QuarterMaster Seaman. A quartermaster seaman is a navigational expert who assists the ship's chief navigator, keeps navigational charts and equipment in working order, and can serve as helmsman if called upon. Navigation mistakes can be lethal, so the Navy is very selective about recruiting quartermasters from the enlisted ranks. y,othing more is found about his time in the Navy.

In 1940 he bagan working for the St. Louis-San Francisco Railway Company as a Brakeman while living in Fort Smith, Ar. His employeee card is found below.

William Joseph "Billy Joe" Been passed away 21 Nov 2013 at Snohomish County, Washington and burial was in Magnolia Gardens at Corinth, Alcorn County, Mississippi.

Funeral services for Billy Been were held Monday, November 25, 2013 at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Forrest Memorial Park.

Mr. Been died Thursday, November 21, 2013 at his residence. He was born April 20, 1927 to the late James Harlan Been and Lillie Parker Been.

Billy served his country in the U.S. Navy where he was a steamfitter. He also enjoyed fishing.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Tommie Fergerson; and one brother, Roger Been.

He is survived by two sisters, Meta leger and Mary Copeland and her husband, Bob.
