Forrest Richard Carter was born October 29, 1919 in Broken Arrow, Tulsa Co., Okla. to William Amos & Bettie Ann "Lizzie" Collins Carter. July 27, 1940 Forest married Pearline Genevieve Moore at Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., Ar. Both living in Fort Smith, Ar. On November 9, 1944 Forest & Pearline were divorced. On June 12, 1946 Forrest married Mildred Francis Snyder at Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., Ar.

Forrest enlisted in the US Army January 26, 1944 and served until February 26, 1946. His rank was Pfc. Nothing more is found about his time in the service.

Forest R Carter
, 83, of Fort Smith died Friday, June 20, 2003, in a local hospital. He was an Army veteran of WWII, a retired construction worker for Buckner & Fleming and of the Baptist faith. Funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Frances; a daughter, Gwen Dickson of Fort Smith; three sons, James Carter of Decatur, Texas, Forest Carter of Van Buren and Edwin Carter of Redmond, Wash.; a sister, Marie Watkins of Fort Smith; a brother, George Carter of Fort Smith; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearer will be Joe Dickson, Steven and Jason Carter, James Nelson, Eric Watkins and Allan Adams. The family will visit with friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
