Jasper Donnohue "Don" Caton
1917-2003


Jasper Donnohue Caton was born February 19, 1917 in Charleston, Franklin Co., Ar. to Jasper Dolphus & Della Dorrit Donnohue Caton. Before 1930 the family moved to Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., Ar.

January 21, 1941 he married Rita Faye Milam, both residents of Fort Smith, Sebastain Co., Ar. They divorced and he married Melba Lucille Castleberry Smith in Sebastian Co., Ar. on July 13, 1946.

Don served in WWII, Korea & Vietnam. He enlisted in the US Army June 18, 1947 at Camp Josepth T Robinson in Little Rock, Arkansas. He states he has completed 1 year of college. More about his time in the service is found in the newspaper clippings below.

Jasper Donnohue Caton passed away January 27, 2003 at Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., Ar. His burial in Woodlawn Memorial Park in Fort Smith, Sebastian County, Arkansas,

Jasper Donnohue "Don" Caton, 85, of Fort Smith died Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at a local hospital. He was a former executive vice president for Ayers Furniture and was secretary treasurer for Ward Furniture Company, was an Air Force veteran of World War II and a colonel in the Air Force Reserve, a member of Grand Avenue Baptist Church, the RSVP and Retired Military.

He is survived by two daughters, Connie Crabtree of Van Buren and Donna Callies of Findlay, Ohio; four sons, Gary Don Caton of Los Angeles, Gordon Caton of San Antonio, Scott Caton of Van Buren and Anthony Caton of Fort Smith; a sister, Enid Hine of Charlotte, N.C.; a brother, Dale Caton of Van Buren; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Feb. 1 at Putman Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Fort Smith.

Pallbearers were Gary Don, Gordon, Scott and Anthony Caton and Keith Crabtree.
